Institutions such as government, on the other hand, neither have nor deserve such a right, because transparency is absolutely essential to democratic governance. For this reason I consider "national security" to be detrimental, because it requires us to assume that what is good for the state is also good for the people, which is completely antithetical to holding power accountable.
