The numbers are five different colors... you are asked to pick what color your number was. This is the first piece of information that gives away your choice.

When it asks you what house your number is in there are five houses, and each house has only one of the numbers from each color choice. When you choose the house that has your number in it - even if it is in a different color - you are actually telling what number you picked.

All of the other things it has you do are bullshit.
