Jigsaws don't make me nervous in the way that circular saws do.

eye and ear protection are key. The rest is self explanatory, and with all the safety stuff it's pretty hard to do yourself harm with one. You're much more likely to fuck up your wood by cutting it too short than to injure yourself. Then you might hurt yourself throwing a tantrum when you find out your key piece is two inches too short...and you gotta go back to the frigging homestore.
