A close relative of yours is seriously ill, they are in constant pain and discomfort and have little or no quality of life. Mentally they are fully compos mentis. They say to you they cannot face any more suffering and they would rather be dead.
Would you be willing to assist them to kill themselves?

Yes, I would. It would be one of the most difficult decisions I'd ever make. Hell, I can't even take a pet to the vet to be put down because I just know I'll make a spectacle of myself.

I worked in Palliative care. It occurs on a softer level anyway. People are not left in a civilised society to suffer, they are given adequate pain relief according to their level of pain. In the throngs of the last days their suffering they are given options and assistance but it is done cautiously.

Yes, probably. But I see so many legal issues. I would be sure that while the person was still cognitive, there was something in writing, with witnesses stating that this is what the person wanted, them being of sound mind and all. Just so it did not come round and bite me in the ass afterward.

I wasn't going to answer, but fuck it..
When you watch the person you love more than anything deteriorate in front of your eyes you progress through various stages. False hope, anger, despair, depression to name a few. Their pain seems to take a back seat to your own selfish want to have them for 'just a little bit longer'.
I think eventually some kind of rationality kicks in and you start wishing for an end to their suffering, but it costs you the personal guilt of thinking are you only wishing because you can't bear to watch anymore.
If it was up to me, yes, I would. Dying with some dignity is not a selfish wish.
Addit; and yes, I know I've said on this very board ghat I think suicide is a selfish act, but I believe terminal illness is the exception to that rule.

In a truly civilized society heroin would be legal for the terminally ill and those wishing an end. They not only don't have to commit suicide but they don't have to suffer in the brief time between having the prescription and accidently overdosing.

I could provide the means but I couldn't personally kill someone, I don't think. They better ask me before they can't do it themselves.

I would want the person to have the choice but I don't know if I could do it for them. I know I would rather die than suffer. I would rather due than be a vegetable too.

I know a couple relatives I'd assist in dying who aren't even sick.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

Me too like my sister. She is useless and isn't going to help with anything. I feel bad for her husband. He doesn't even get laid but has to put up with her.

Yeah, if you're terminally ill they increase the morphine to speed up the process. No one is left to suffer for years unless it's a case like Terry Shavo where she was a vegetable, had no living will and there was a disagreement between relatives to pull the plug or not.
Just your average Joe who has cancer and was given three months to live doesn't need a lethal dose of poison, they'll be given morphine and other pain killers to be kept comfortable and let nature take it's course. They'll die soon, no need to suffocate them with a pillow.

Do you feel worse for him because she's a hot piece of ass and he doesn't get any, or because she's a worthless bitch and he's stuck with her?

The latter. My BIL is a great guy and she is lucky he has put up with her all these years.

I agree with Sally about the morphine. My dad's hospice nurse told him in advance that when the time came, she'd give him a dose of morphine and he would die pretty soon thereafter.
When the time did come, he wasn't able to speak but she told him she was going to give him that morphine dose and he gave her a thumbs up. He knew exactly what was going to happen. Might as well have been assisted suicide.
I'd have a hard time helping someone but I think I could do it under very certain circumstances.

(Can't sleep)
If a person, (especially a love one) was in a vegetable state condition, or dying in excruciating pain with no chance of recovery, then yes probably could give them "pills" to make them sleep forever.
