PUBLIC SHAMING
#1

When the father took his handgun and shot up his daughter's laptop I thought that was pretty funny and a great way to get a point across but I've been seeing parents do some things that I think is humiliating to their kids. Would you make your kid stand on a street corner holding a sign that details their "crime".

Don't think so, I could easily come up with something more appropriate.
Don't see anything wrong with putting adults on the corner with a sign though

I think it would depend on the kid and the crime. If the kid keeps screwing up andaking bad choices, then maybe going to the extreme is necessary.

Did you see the father that went around in daisy dukes to show his daughter how embarrassing it is when she wears short shorts? I thought that was pretty funny.

I did see that & it was funny. My issue stems from the very public humiliation of someone's offspring. A mother just made her daughter stand on a street corner wearing a sign that said she had disrespected her parents by twerking at a school dance. Surely there's a better way to get your point across. I feel that some of the things a parent does borders on bullying.

I am fortunate that my career taught me a near infinite amount of patience and nonconfrontational strategies in behavior management. They are amazingly effective and universal in application. The GF loves it when I use them on phantom toddler...not so much when I use them on her.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

I do think that us a bit much. But I bet she doesn't do it again.

That's just great. Maybe the mom will get lucky and her daughter's friends will taunt her relentlessly on Facebook and Tweet pictures of her holding the sign all over the web so that the daughter commits suicide. That would sure stop her daughter from twerking which just so happens to be what most teenage girls are trying right now, at home in front of their mirrors, to do.

Jesus. Don't let her go to the next dance for chrissake. That's appropriate.

I can't imagine why parents who do this shaming don't have thoughts along that line. ^^^^^

They let just anyone raise children. Jeezus.

What the fuck is twerking?

Never mind. I knew what it was, I just didn't know twerking was the name for it. Little white girls with no ass shouldn't twerk, they look ridiculous. Some white girls can pull it off pretty good, however. Miley Cyrus is not one of them.

I can twerk. I am a white girl with a black girl's booty.

However, I am not a teenager. I know that it's not appropriate in most situations.

My husband likes it, though.

I don't think it borders on bullying, that's because I see that as more fucked up retardedness. You are not a fucking parent if you are public humiliating your child. You are an abuser, causing psychological damage and distress to the child. You are setting the child up to be further bullied and ridiculed by the community at large. Like what User was saying too, the online bullying could be relentless and become a campaign with fatal consequences. Good one parent.

I would ring child protective services over that incident. I would pull everything out to try and make an impact with my complaint. I would articulate my language to try and get those folks into so much karmic problems. I would also call the police on them, and the IRS and report them. Even if they are legitimately paying their taxes, they may get an audit.

I hate people who are horrible to kids. Hate it, which is why I don't work in paediatric health, or child mental health, I would end up in a fight with idiot parents.

I agree that the mother is an idiot, and that's probably why her daughter is an idiot making an ass of herself at the school dance. But what kind of weirdo would call the IRS on them, you really are a fruit cake.

hah Seriously. What does the IRS have to do with it?

I don't think I was as opposed to public shaming of teens in the past but after hearing about so many kids taking their lives over things that occur on social media, I think it's a bad idea in any scenario. Keep that shit at home.

I would ring every government agency I could to get them into so much trouble and keep them so busy they wouldn't have time to be public shaming their children. Maybe they are getting government handouts too that they are not entitled to, I would be following that up too. I am sorry, I get very angry at people bullying and picking on people less than themselves. I don't think they should get away with it. They probably have a low IQ which is why they have used such brutal backward parenting techniques.
