I'm ready for some TURKEY! STUFFING!! and MASHED POTS AND GRAVY!
I love Thanksgiving Dinner. I could set down to TG spread once a week if someone else wanted to cook it.

Well, the cooking is all a pain in my butt, but I enjoy it. I will be feeding 4 of us for less than $80. Including a 16 pound bird. Lots of leftovers. Our two guests are a couple of single guys, so I always plan for ample leftovers.
The other day I got a call from one of my two guests, rather distressed. He works at Walmart, and has to work until 6PM. He was worried he could not come. I reminded him of how much I cook, and even though we will be eating a couple hours before he gets there, there will be plenty. Told him he had better show his face. Plus he bakes a mean pumpkin pie..from scratch.

Birds at the Safeway here were going from around $1.75 to $3.75 a pound. The higher end ones were the organic free-range type.
I got a Jennie-O brand. It comes with a "fool-proof" bag -- so it's gonna be perfect even if I start drinking before noon (which is a real safe bet).

He had been part of our Thanksgiving dinner's for the last "14" years. And every year, myself & my betterhalf would always get in trouble with our daughter for over feeding him with turkey, mashed potatos, apple pie, and anything else he liked.

The price around here was $1.69 /lb for "fresh" B Ball, and we got a $7 off thankyou for shopping with us loyalty coupon from our local supermarket. So that worked out good for us.

Holy shit- I was actually tempted to keep this basket , not only did it include everything (appetizers, drinks, full meal, desserts) for a Thanksgiving dinner- There was a $100.00 Gift card to Target, a $50.00 card for the grocery store, a $50.00 card to a local restaurant, and another $50.00 for walmart.
Who ever gets the basket is going to make out like a bandit.

I would have kept at least a couple of those cards for my trouble. I'm at the airport. Again. The temps in So Cal are in the mid 70's though!

I'm going to someone else's house for dinner and will have no leftovers. Fuck that. I am going to the store on Friday and pick up a clearance turkey.

I have some friends coming over tomorrow, but I don't have any family other than my husband and kids. They're either dead, drug addicts or live thousands of miles away. Kinda depressing.

I can imagine how much you miss your mom, sally. She sounds like such a character and so loved by her grandkids too (like mine). It's gotta be really hard on the holidays especially. If you weren't such a crabby bitch, I'd insert a warm fuzzy emoticon here, but you are so I won't.
The first two Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays without my dad were depressing. Actually, I was depressing; I brought the rest of my family down. I know it. They bounced back more quickly than I did, even though I'm the least emotional in the family. The next couple with my friends were less depressing because I didn't feel guilty for being a bit of a downer and more time had passed.
Alcohol helped a lot, too.

Our traditional Thanksgiving dinner several years ago usually had between 20 to 26+ guests, and a Westie. Now the number has dwindled down to between 6 to 9, & less the Westie. Nothing stays the same forever. Enjoy the holidays to the fullest every time.

My first Thanksgiving without my dad sucked. He died a month before Thanksgiving and no one would sit in his chair at the end of the table. No one said anything either...nothing. We were all trying to choke back the lumps in our throats and I finally lost it and went running to the bathroom to bawl my eyes out. Christmas was somewhat better because the kids had us distracted with their new toys. Holidays were his favorite time of year and if we didn't show up for whatever reason, he was going to come get us, like it or not.
I remember my brother didn't show up one year because he was depressed and fucked up on crank. My dad went and got him. He's never did any drugs since then.

I cried too the first TG after my dad died. My sister and I finally cleaned out his clothes and stuff for my mom. He died in June. I think getting rid of their things is the hardest part. I still have all of Mike's stuff. It's like getting rid of their things really sends it home that they are gone.
