WHO'S TO BLAME? - MAN SHOOTS BOY IN DAUGHTER'S ROOM
#21
From the article linked in the op

The father told deputies that McCormick dropped his hands as if to grab something, so the man opened fire.

Stupid move.
The kid was 16, they are genetic smartasses at that age and he was apparently arguing with the man with a gun on him more stupid moves
There is also the pic he had posted, looks like a smart ass to me, Oh and then theres the part about sneaking into the girls bedroom in the first place with dad, mom and at least 1 brother in the house, more stupid. The kind of thing a smart ass thinks he can get away with because he is so much charter than everyone else
Dad was in his mind taking care of his family, misguided as he was to shoot. There is a lot of blame to go around, no doubt about that.
I am not saying the kid deserved to die, dad should not have shot him, I would have handled it way differently, then again I raised my kids better than that.

The boy didn’t have a weapon and there’s no report that he lunged at or threatened the dad. He moved, that’s all we know, and that’s only according to the shooter’s word. If Johran did move, we don’t know if he went to pick up his pants, or scratch his knee or anything else. Simply moving isn’t stupid in itself. I’d need to know how and why he moved in order to judge whether it was stupid.

We don’t know what they argued about. Could it have been the boy trying to tell dad that he knew and liked his daughter, that he was invited over, that there was no need for a gun or police? IDK, but that’s as reasonable as assuming the boy was being a smart-ass with a death wish.

Different perceptions, I guess. I don’t think this kid looks like anything but a nice goofy teen – much more respectful than a lot of the pics posted by teens these days.

Yep, he may well have been a typical teenager – as you described.

^ That's the shooter/dad.

I’m not presuming to know what was “in his mind”, or even that he was in his right mind. I only know what he reportedly told cops after he killed a kid. To be honest, he looks shady to me. BUT, that’s irrelevant.

I hope we learn more facts, but Johran’s dead and the only witnesses either killed him or contributed to his death, so the truth may never be known unless the 911 operator was on the line with the dad when the supposed argument and then the shooting went down.

Maybe Johran threatened the dad or the girl, though that’s not been alleged. If so, you could be right in assuming that the dad shot the boy because in his mind he thought he was protecting his family.

Or, maybe the dad knew Johran was no threat, but was instead pissed off and irrational. Maybe…

Yeah, I agree.

IDK, Six. You may be a perfect parent. My parents weren’t; but they did their best and they did alright raising me, IMO. I got really good grades and worked part-time and didn’t disrespect my mom or dad as a teen. I still had sex with my boyfriend at my house, his house, the car…when I was 16 (and partied, and snuck around some). My parents didn't condone it, but knew I wasn't perfect. Based on what’s known about this story, my dad certainly would have handled the situation differently too – like a rational person.

Jeesus christ I was far from a perfect parent, I wasn't even around for the most part. I did try and teach them right from wrong and was fortunate enough to have an x and her parents to keep them in church and out of trouble.
I was around to give them some perspective of a bigger world than the one they grew up in. It worked but I can't take credit for much of it.
Your right, we can't know many of the specifics, my words are just my opinions from what I read and what I know in my own experiences.
We will probably never know, but I would bet I am not far off.
