ChicagoBorn, were you really born in Chicago and do you like the band Chicago (if so, early or later years)?

This thread made me laugh!

I swear . . . I've would have posed variations of your questions to the same members.

Back home . . . never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I'd enjoy placer mining for gold.

Yup . . . we got a bunch o' nuggets, pickers and flakes. But what surprised me the most was the hunt and not the actual gold.

It was great being back in the "mother lode" country of California.

But sonofabitch . . . it was cooler in Phoenix than it was at the camp, Jackson and Pioneer.

Go figure.

Did I mention the strawberries and cherries, in and around the Stockton area?

CB (that's you, ChicagoBorn) . . . if you are who I think you are, please identify what Bay Area institution you attended.

Not the psychiatric / rehab one . . .

If you are who I think you are, you are a complete dickhead/twat for NOT letting me know you finally got off your ass and joined.

I loathe trickery . . . except when it's for my own benefit.

I think that's something that I'd really enjoy, too.

Sounds like a cool and interesting prospect; outdoors with a bunch of optimists who are willing to get their hands and nails dirty. Golden opportunity.

And, I'm sure there was no mockery or tomfoolery or monkey business or shenanigans or anything like that with your band of gold diggers.

I too was roughing it for a few days while you were away. Yep, Motel 6. Wasn't as profitable as your getaway, though. I did find a picker -- the guy at the front desk -- nose only, not butt or anything -- not that I saw, anyway. And, came across some flakes, as well -- the lovely couple down the hall who let their toddler (I couldn't tell if the kid was a boy or a girl) play on the stairs, adjacent to the drive-way, unattended. If it weren't for the view of the Denny's dining room from my window, I'd almost say the place qualified as a dive.

Anyway, glad you're back, Tiki.

P.s. How was the feedback on your outdoor cooking skills?

Thanks, doll.

No complaints and all were quite surprised with offerings presumably confined to home kitchens.

Overheard a muffled comment from another participant to a member of our group: "Where can I get a house-bitch, like that?"

Yeah, asshole . . . enjoy you're pork 'n beans and white bread. hah

I refill their food bowl daily, as well as give them fresh water in their bottle. If we were going away for a few days, I would put in an extra food bowl, and maybe one of those water "feeders" that you could put extra water in. If we were going to be gone for more than 3 days, I would probably give my neighbor a key so he can peek in on them.
I have not seen them gourge their food yet. I refill at night, before I go to bed as they are nocturnal. They go to it and eat some, but there is still plenty left in the morning. I may end up getting a second food bowl anyway as one seems to be an alpha and I have seen her push her sister away from the bowl. But her sister does well at pushing back.

Don't wanna come across as nosy or anything, so I'll stop there - for now.

Well HotD, the correct user name would probably have been "ChicagoBorne". (That one is for BlueTiki - Smooches!)

Actually my father was - but I love the BlackHawks, and dispel all personal pride when attending a game. I have a slight tendency to ever so slightly raise my voice a bit, maybe share an opinion or two, and possibly even queitly arise from my seat for something other than the seventh inning stretch.

As for Chicago the band: I would be lying if I said that I didn't listen to them in my younger days. Occasionally, I will pull them up on digital media, but I can't make it through much more than a song or two; unlike my ability to listen to Loud 'n' Proud, Rampant, No Mean City, or Hair of the Dog all day long.

Well, those are some damned good albums, ChicagoBorne. I got nothing to mock on that front.

As for the band Chicago, I really like the very early years and The Chicago Transit Authority album. That's back before the band shortened its name and all of their songs combined elements of jazz, progressive rock, pop... I love a good horn section. The album was already about a decade old when I first got my hands/ears on it (my dad owned it); it kinda blew me away and remains one of my nostalgic favorites.

Ah, you must be talking about Instantons beginning with a B?

I'm gonna take a quantum leap and guess that you also studied at Boris Bolscheski's School of Independent Belavin Instanton Application at City Lights in SF on Sunday mornings? Small world!

This one stumped my for a very long time.

Effin' tough one to configure.

P.s. I don't know if you dropped "Instution" as a love token for Tiki or if it was by accident, and I'm far from a grammar/spelling nazi. BUT, finders/keepers!, first come/first served!, the early bird gets the worm!...one of those. 102

As we are pretty much booked over next year I think it would be around 2016 when you shall go and book one of those vans with bedrooms which we then drive from San Diego up to San Francisco or the other way around. I think we should start from San Diego as it's closer to Mexico so we can load up on all essentials Smiley_emoticons_smile

2016! Dancingparty

When you're stocking up in Mexico, grab some lobster tacos and a Pacifico or two at the Rosarito Beach Hotel -- nice way to relax for a while and it's near the Tijuana border.

At least, it used to be a nice place to kick back on the ocean. Haven't been down there in a very long time and there was a lot of condo timeshare construction starting then. For all I know, it might look like LA there now.

Whether you were there or not though, it comes down to logic. You can dress for the cold, but the clothing you can remove to deal with the heat is limited.
I would always rather be too hot than too cold. Sometimes the clothes on hand aren't enough to cut the chill.

How about we meet in the middle, 75F degrees on a beautiful mountain trail?

I picture you being busy with a lot of projects and family and pets and such, but a good kind of busy -- like Maggot.

When I retire ("if", I guess), New Hampshire is one of the states I'm looking forward to driving through most. It looks beautiful in the photos that I've seen and seems like a state with a lot of interesting people, on the whole.

There must be 60 year old Bachelorettes -- 60 is the new 40, that's what "they" say.

But, the Wheel sounds like more fun anyway. Just be careful not to blow it...

I wish we could do that with the cats. The bigger one will eat all the food on the first day and always pushes the crazy one away from the food bowls. This last trip, the big one really didn't want to be in the carrier on the road. I think I'm gonna have to enlist the neighbor's help and leave them home next time.

My niece had a couple of rats for a year or so -- she thought they were really great pets and missed them after her family moved to a new apartment that wouldn't allow any pets of any kind.

No alcohol on vacations. I didn't even drink at Mardi Graz-too much fun to people watch.

As for busy, I tend to get too busy sometimes. Hubby laughs at me, because I'm easily snookered into volunteering for things.

I always answer questions directed to me too, but it doesn't offend me if people don't always respond when I ask questions. Never hurts to ask either way.

Anyway, I hear ya...so, when I'm messing around and flinging senseless/ignorant bs, I won't expect you to pick it up and toss it back. Unless you're feeling particularly feisty-- I've seen you fling some shit!
