THE EVIDENCE AND THE PROSECUTION'S CASE

There is no doubt that Magnotta killed and defiled the body of Jun Lin. It's on videotape and Magnotta has confessed.

The prosecution's job in this case is to convince the Canadian jury that Magnotta knew exactly what he was doing and should be held criminally responsible.

Today in court, three crime scene technicians testified about the evidence found in Magnotta's apartment, including evidence that he used bleach to try to rid the mattress of blood stains and undertook a methodical clean-up process after the killing. There had been blood through the apartment.

Magnotta had also bagged and rid his apartment of Lin's belongings and moved them to the street near the garbage. The bags included items of clothing like a salmon-colored golf shirt, white-and-blue checkered pants, a green sweater and black underwear, as well as bank statements, passes for the subway in London and more sinister materials such as two black-handled steak knives, a pair of scissors, two screwdrivers, a hammer and a circular hand saw.

The prosecution contends that these are deliberate and knowing acts; acts which conflict with Magnotta's claim of not being responsible and also conflict with the raving notes he sent with packages containing Lin's body parts.

One package, addressed to the federal Liberal party headquarters, with the sender’s name and address given as Bordelais of Montreal, includes a note handwritten in marker on a piece of pink paper apparently appealing to Laureen Teskey, the wife of Prime Minister Stephen Harper. “You know who they are,” the note says. “They f----- me big time.”

Another box, sent to Vancouver’s False Creek Elementary School, was sent in the name of “L. Valentini” of St. Catharines, Ont. Again on pink paper is the threatening poem: “Roses are red, violets are blue. The police will need dental records to identify you. Bitch.”

He's a maniac, no doubt about it.

I hope he is found criminally responsible for the murder. I think he knew what was he doing, he knew it was wrong, and he enjoys the infamy.

I don't think that Luka Magnotta should ever have a chance to be deemed "cured" and set free in society again.

GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

A jury found a Canadian man guilty on Tuesday of killing and dismembering his Chinese lover and mailing the remains to schools and political parties around the country.

Luka Magnotta was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2012 slaying of Jun Lin after eight days of jury deliberations. He was also convicted on the four other related charges.

Magnotta, 32, had pleaded not guilty. While he admitted to the slaying, he sought to be found not criminally responsible by reason of insanity. His lawyer argued he is schizophrenic and couldn't tell right from wrong at the time of the slaying.

The prosecution countered the crime was both planned and deliberate and that Magnotta's behavior and actions were not those of an insane person. The jury agreed.

Magnotta has received an automatic life sentence for first-degree murder, with no possibility of parole for 25 years. He was sentenced to another 19 years for the four other charges he was convicted on.

Quebec Superior Court Justice Guy Cournoyer gave Magnotta the maximum sentence on the four lesser charges, to be served concurrently with the first-degree murder sentence.

RIP Jun Lin

His family was very emotional during the trial.

Here's a link to their victims' impact statement: http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/12/23/...ee-murder/

I hope the Lin family finds some peace now that Magnotta has been sentenced to life.

I didn't follow the Luka Magnotta case until the tail end. His crimes actually started with videotaping himself killing kittens and posting the videos on the internet.

Some of the people who saw the first terrible video started an internet sleuthing group to find the animal abuser and were actually way ahead of police when Magnotta, who'd posted photos of himself and created fan clubs for himself all over the internet, graduated to murdering a human and posting the snuff video on-line.

It's a very bizarre and interesting case which is the subject of a 3-part documentary on Netflix called 'Dont F**ck with Cats'.

I watched it over the last couple of days.  It was very well done.  If you like true crime docs, it's well worth a watch.
