PROBABLE CAUSE

And that's where we disagree. I believe that is in fact the underlying reason for what they're doing. Looking for illegal immigrants... or checking for folks with warrants, or seeing if they can detect the odor of marijuana, or anything else they may happen to see in the vehicle to give them probable cause to escalate to a search and seizure.

Muck akin to getting pulled over for a non functioning tail light. Do you really think they do that shit out of concern for public safety on the road?
Of the millions of sperm injected into your mother's pussy, you were the quickest?

You are no longer in the womb, friend. The competition is tougher out here.

I guess I'm just old & crotchety, I find fault with just about everything they do and I never believe that anything they do is for my benefit. That's pretty much how I view politicians too.

Sure, they're looking for other illegal activity. Advertising police presence makes folks who aren't drug users / wanted / illegal immigrants feel all safe and gooey inside. However, if you're a wanted, weed smoking, illegal immigrant... you're perfectly free to walk down the sidewalk past the traffic stop. Why would you even be in a car anyway? I don't want all the high, unlicensed criminals driving around my neighborhood. I'm not trying to say "well if you're not doing anything wrong then you shouldn't have anything to hide." It's a burden to everyone passing through that checkpoint and everyone is entitled to privacy, but if you're not licensed to drive you shouldn't be on the road.

My point about Nazi rule was that they'd stop people walking down the street to prove they're not an ethnicity. This is still cops stopping drivers to check if they're licensed to drive.

I sorta kinda struggle with my thoughts on profiling. Many times I think it's a great idea but logically I know looks can be deceiving and things aren't always what they seem.

They need a new way to make a living rather than policing people if they are so fearful. I don't want anyone on the force whose first response is always to draw their weapon. That's bullshit. More & more lately my only thought is that they have a license to kill. The poor guy at the gas station was shot when he reached for his license after being requested to do so for fuckssake.

My son was pulled over on the bridge coming home from high school bowling practice. Apparently his vehicle matched the description of some guy who just robbed a lady. He calls me on the phone and says there are 5 cop cars behind him and the cop had his gun out. My first thought was what if these stupid mother fuckers do something to my kid.... That the was the only thing I was concerned about. I told him not to reach for anything and just do whatever they say.

They were assholes too even after they realized it wasn't him that robbed the lady.

Israel profiles everyone that walks into their airports. They also have the best security in the world as far as airports are concerned. There is a time and a place for profiling, some just go off on power trips about it.

My Mom is about the same age as Lady Cop would have been today21

She was also one of the first 5 females sworn into our county back in the 70s. I wanted to follow her footsteps but she begged me not to as I would deal with 95% scum of the earth.

Mom worked so undercover for 5 yrs, my family believed she had divorced my Daddy, only after finding out the bad guys were following her near our home, putting us 4 kids and the rest of the family in danger. She then dealt with juvenile crime which included sex crimes to kids. Mom is also about 5 foot nothing and tiny.

She feared for her life daily but not nearly as much as she did when she worked traffic duty and never knew who she was about to stop. When tinted windows became the norm, she helped put in place laws on how dark the tint on cars could be.

That being said, she would NEVER NEVER NEVER be even a bicycle cop in today's world because ultimately the criminals have more rights than us law abiding citizens.

It is a split second decision when you feel your life is in danger. It takes a few more seconds to show your ID and be on your way. Profiling is profiling and is done for a reason. I can't say I agree with this 1000% of the time but it is there for a reason. When I drive my Other Half's 4X4 redneck truck with louder mufflers, outlaw country stickers on the back window and a (empty) gunrack, I know I am more likely to get stopped than when I drive my old lady newer Taurus.

All that long story being said, what the hell is the harm of showing your ID? What the hell is wrong with stepping out a car? What the hell is answering a couple of questions?

Was LC born today?

Whether she was/wasn't, how nice that you think of her. Beautiful. Blowing-kisses

I think about her this time of year too. She was always fabulous but she shed a special light in the fall/winter. Her seasons, I think. She owned them. Smiley_emoticons_smile

She was born Oct. 26th. My mom was diagnosed with cancer the same time she was and died the day before her birthday one year later.

If circumstances call for it there is nothing wrong with any of that but if one is just stopped at random there is a hell of a lot wrong with being asked to comply with all of that. It's not like the cops are targeting the bad guy, they are targeting anyone and their attitude is one of shoot first, ask questions later. They are consistently shooting unarmed people who haven't done anything wrong. They need better training and they should probably have a psychiatric evaluation as well. It past the point of ridiculous a long time ago. In general, I now view them the same way I view a thug.

I probably have. I'm lucky enough that I grew up and live now, in a place where there is very little crime, most of it is petty bs, no murders or robberies or crimes of that nature but I do read the stories that are published about the atrocious behavior of some LE and it does color my opinion of them.

Sad coincidence. LC's bio says October 26th and I'm a fucking idiot because it's probably the anniversary of her death or something that Tammy was referring to and I suck at remembering dates so yeah...

I'm leaving now.

Me too. There hasn't been a day since her death that I haven't thought of her. This was her favorite time of year. Smiley_emoticons_smile
