My Maple trees are dying. They're infested with the Asian longhorned beetle

Try Agway they have a spray thing you can hook onto your hose and spray the tree, it leaves a white trace so you can see where you sprayed.
I have bamboo and after 5 yrs of fighting it I give up.

The former Mrs. Cowboy planted it in the horse cemetery and it sucks ass. It spreads like the friggin' plague. I feel your pain. I don't like to use what I consider dangerous stuff in my gardens but I used it on the bamboo and it didn't phase it a bit. I hate that shit.

Bamboo is a bitch. Terribly invasive once planted... you'd better be damn sure you want it before putting it in the ground.

Bamboo can be managed. During the May-June growth cycle simply cut it with a hedge trimmer once a week to about 1-2 feet high. It's easy to do since these new shoots are succulent and not "woody". By July the new shoots stop and the bamboo remains dwarfed until it makes new attempts to grow the next May. Of course, if you are dealing with a mature stand and it's already woody, you must get out the lopers tool and cut each stalk as close to the ground as possible.

I don't know about bamboo plants, but I have bamboo floors. They're beautiful. Well not any more after the kids and dogs destroyed it, but before that.

I'll have to do some reading, I've always thought of bamboo as a tropical plant, never realized it could survive New England winters.

Would the roots grow big enough to to hold a slope up? If I lose too many of those maple trees, I'm going to lose half my backyard to a river.

Bamboo is about the only plant I've seen worse than fucking mint. My neighbour planted it along one of our mutual fences as s privacy screen and it spread to my side. I tried glyphosate and a bunch of other herbicides to no avail. I even tried some old school stuff that you can't buy any more with no luck. In the end, I just ran over it continually with the tractor and rotary hoe.

I dug that crappy bamboo up, tearing out 2ft round roots after 2 yrs of doing that they seemed half way stopped. Nope they have come back and are over 8ft tall now.
I like the idea of going out there with a Samurai sword though.

Hey all! Stopped in to check in on the Clarke/Straub news and thought I'd give a general hello.

Life has been crazy busy. I just took a "me" vacation and went to an adult summercamp (NOT a swinger's camp) and had the best time ever. Four days, lots of alcohol, no responsibilities!

Hope everyone is doing well and I hope to be able to check in more often.
