Okay, menop-aussie, duly noted. Actually if going OFF the SSRI didn't help my stomach, the next step was taking like 9 Tums a day or something crazy like that so you're not off the mark. My stomach has gotten better though so I'm just living without the SSRI for now (and I feel okay). However, you're right, when I went on it in the first place it wasn't like I suddenly felt Zen...instead the morbid worries etc. and my stress level just smoothed out. I have felt like beating my son on a few occasions recently so perhaps I'll look in to some other options. I know there's a different class of medications (SSNR'S) but taking a pill hasn't been high on my priority list.

Granted if I went by the possible side effects I'd never take ANY medication again (even OTC). However, I laughed a little when I read this about Effexor. This is me already, why would I want to take something that potentially might make me worse? I know they ALL say stuff like this but it's still mildly intimidating:

There's too much drug pushing for this bullshit. I believe that there are instances where there are chemical imbalances in the brain, I don't think that can be disputed but not for a moment do I believe that's the case in every instance where a prescription is written. In general I think most people are lazy and don't want to take the time to work through their issues.

That's a general statement and is not directed at anyone in this thread. I don't do coy, I'd tell you that straight up.

You're absolutely right although except any impact on my insurance costs all this over medicating may impart, I generally don't care (except where kids are concerned). It's a shame though that a lot of crazies who need it the most (I'm talking about some homeless people etc) either can't get it or won't take it as prescribed. I'm all for alcohol/drug testing in welfare lines and/or mandatory meds for the just plain nuts. Oh, and mandatory contraception. Yes, yes.

I've seen a handful of documentaries about the street people crazies. It's very sad. To see them on their meds and living full, productive lives and then to view them off the drugs and living on the streets is extraordinary. They are almost unrecognizable in every way.

Effexor SR (slow release) breaks down in your duodenom. To by pass being broken down and diluted by the liver. Much the same way Cartia does for those needing aspirin in their blood stream.
