THE NRA IS CHICKEN LITTLE
#1

Their new motto is - If they can ban one, they can ban them all.

Please. Just stop. If you're not smart enough to know that will never happen then you're not smart enough to carry a weapon.

I'm a gun advocate but I don't view the NRA as many who own guns does. If some of you believe Washington plays on your fears, believe me, they've got nothing on the NRA. No one is going to take all your guns. 11

Chicken Little and Chickenshit too.

The NRA is the most blatant example of organized fear-mongering in America that I can think of -- easily exceeding any governmental body or religion.

The NRA is a business and a hawkish special interest group -- its goal is making as much money and wielding as much influence as possible. Peddling fear and bullshit rhetoric is its primary strategy for achieving those goals, IMO. And, its very good at it. The NRA is to national membership associations what the Church of Scientology is to organized religion, in my eyes.

Politicians who want smarter gun safety controls, but who have no interest in taking everybody's guns away, are nonetheless targeted by the NRA as "enemies". To their credit, some politicians follow their consciences and use common sense when it comes to supporting gun safety/control measures like universal background checks and child gun safety regulations. They take the risk (and sometimes pay the price) of incurring the NRA's wrath. Still, the NRA has far too many elected legislators by the balls and the pocketbooks IMO.

When it comes to the general public, fortunately some gun enthusiasts, including some NRA members, are smart. They aren't suckered by the NRA and don't feel the need to personify guns, deny or defend the NRA's duplicity, nor insist that more guns in the hands of more people (including children) makes society a safer place. They know NRA-propagated bullshit when they smell it; bullshit designed to make the organization as much money as possible at any cost.

While it seems that a great many gun enthusiasts have in fact drunk the NRA Kool Aid, it also seems to me that smart and rational gun owners are becoming less hesitant to speak out against some of the NRA's dipshittery and to make it clear that neither the NRA nor Wayne LaPierre himself speaks for all gun owners. Those smart gun owners realize that gun control is not an all or nothing proposition; it's not "storm the people and take all their guns away!!!" vs. "arm everyone and bury some guns for tyranny is upon us!!!". They also realize that reasonable gun safety/control laws do not represent an imminently "slippery slope".

If lawmakers and activists could engage more rational people in the gun safety discussion and minimize the influence of extremist spewers on both sides (including Feinstein and LaPierre), I think there would be a lot of room for compromise and increased public safety. But, the fearful fear-peddling extremists are a sizable hurdle to overcome.

I don't support gun bans, but I do support universal background laws and child safety regulations. And, obviously, I don't support the NRA. 79

So funny & so pathetic. If I think too much about how some in society are so easily lead I get a little nervous.

The NRA....

Brainexplode

One the most lethal special interest groups out there. Smiley_emoticons_slash

"Make no mistake -- they're coming for our guns. And we freedom-loving gun lovers are totally defenseless! Other than, you know, the guns." –Stephen Colbert

"Thousands of dead fish have now washed up on shore along the coast of South Carolina. Today the NRA said that this wouldn't have happened if those fish had guns." –Jay Leno

"Q: How many NRA spokesman do you need to change a light bulb?
A: More guns."

I'm not interested in stirring up a gun debate, but it seems to me that the NRA is just doing what other special interest groups do: advocate and lobby for a constituent group.

Like them or hate them, they are playing the same game the rest of them are.

No, you're right. They're all evil. It's akin to the religious extremists who predict that gay marriage will somehow ruin the institution of marriage if not all civilization. 78

The people out there who thinks its completely acceptable for sociopaths and lunatics to have access to guns confuse and bewilder me.

I'll never understand why some states fight against a reasonable waiting period and background checks. I think it's insane to not support things that will help to make people safer.

Its all a money game. Neither side of this coin could give a rats ass about safety. The pro side wants to sell more guns, The anti side wants to charge more fees for buying those guns. One side could not survive without the other.

Buying a gun does not require an IQ test. There are the .5% that screw things up for the 99.5% and the media will glorify the .5% I don't know why.

Because the .5% regularly commit terrible massacres.

Personally I'm more concerned about massacres than I am about what guns are available.

And before anyone says restricting guns won't stop massacres we all KNOW that isn't true.

I'm willing to bet that more massacres have been prevented or stopped by guns than have been implemented to their grisly end.

But no one wants to hear about granny defending herself or others with her old revolver Maggot. So the media, if it is even mentioned, wont cover it like they will a mass shooting. When it comes to a mass shooting the general public eats the info up as fast as they can "report" it. Everyone wants to know how many shot, what are the ages, where did they get the gun, what was the killer thinking, what was he wearing, what did they have for breakfast, etc? So the so called reporters take the ball and run with it. For days, weeks, even months that's all we hear about.

And we know this because statistics don't lie right Ninja?
More than 53,000 people have been murdered in Mexico in the last six years—most of them by a variety of pistols, rifles, and assault weapons owned by Mexican drug cartels. While the exact number of firearms in circulation in Mexico eludes everyone, we know tens of thousands are seized every year by Mexican authorities.

These facts and figures might lead one to believe that it’s easy for cartels to buy or otherwise acquire guns in Mexico. In fact, Mexico has some of the strictest gun control laws on the entire planet—as well as one of the planet’s highest annual death tolls as a result of gun violence.

Be interested to see your evidence for that. My evidence is the numerous massacres committed by sociopaths who buy the guns they massacre people with over the counter like pop tarts

What's your evidence? Oh right there isn't any.
