An example of media hype
(02-04-2019, 06:38 AM)Fry Guy Wrote: Some girls get raped sometimes. True. There is no excuse for raping someone. True. So far this is nothing that anyone has said anything in opposition to AND has Fuck All to do with the Covington 16 year olds.
The question about what she was wearing and doing IS necessary and only someone very, very stupid does not get why. Nothing to do with blame but, if there is someone targeting ladies to sexually assault, getting an idea of what occurred to profile rapists and pre-empt them, is helpful in stopping the next attack. There was a spate of mickey-finning about 15 years ago. You know what reduced that considerably? Working out what the rapists were doing to warn younger ladies. Was it successful? Yes. Was it blaming the victim or helping future potential victims? Was knowing what the ladies were or were not doing valuable in these instances? Nod slowly if you get it. So really none of this has fuck all to do with the Covington Kids and you were getting triggered over fuck all, true or false?
Some boys get harrased while waiting for their bus. I wonder what they were wearing? Perhaps they can learn from this so it doesn't happen to other catholic highschool students.
Thank you for clearing that up for me.

Nothing to do with what girls are wearing and nothing to do with what they were wearing,, in that it is only good to see why perpetrators did what they did not to victimise victims, and no i never blamed girls for being raped and yes you blamed the boys for getting death threats.
I didn't because i am not immoral. You did because you are.
No i also was not so fucking stupid to pretend there was equivalence. You did.

How is that for clearing things up?

I did not blame them for getting death threats. Thank you for showing me what it is like to have words taken out of context. Also I love how both you and Big Mark said things like, "I will not respect you" if I post a certain way or believe a certain thing.

Give me a fucking break you two. Fry Guy you are just looking for an arguement. Plus you love to be on your pedastal and call people immoral and liars.

I am trying to build a bridge and you refuse to even walk it part way.

I am not on a pedestal BUT I am not picking on 16 yr old kids

Having raised 2 kids through their 16th year i tend to not be dismissive about how mature, invulnerable and how able they handle themselves against bullying by adults.
Kids are vulnerable and need protection. Being male, white or Christian is not a defence against it.
But, who really fucking cares? Not my kids, not my country, not my values and not my concern.

First the Wall street journal:

The American economy is a tremendous engine of prosperity when politicians get out of the way, and for proof look no further than Thursday’s report on fourth-quarter growth. It’s clearer than ever that business investment has rescued the U.S. economy by shifting into a higher gear. Tax reform and deregulation, take a bow.
Growth in the fourth quarter came in higher than expected at 2.6% after a December financial-market scare, and the internals were better than the top line. Consumer spending declined a bit but was still strong. Growth from government spending was negligible—so much for claims of a deficit-led boom in “demand.”

The best news was business investment, which contributed 0.69-percentage points to GDP growth. This is even better than it looks because housing subtracted 0.14. Housing has now been flat or worse for most of the last two years, but that may be a silver lining.

This means the expansion isn’t marked now by ever-rising housing prices, which means growth hasn’t been driven by unsustainable home building. If interest rates don’t keep rising, and assuming the labor market stays strong, the housing market should return to modest growth

Next John Harwood at CNBC:

Trump and GOP promised economic growth much better than Obama's. That's not what happened
President Donald Trump's central claim about his economic policies officially crashed into reality on Thursday.
Throughout the 2016 campaign and since, the president and his party have vowed to kick-start tepid Obama-era economic growth. Specifically, they insisted tax cuts and deregulation would return growth to its post-World War II average of 3 percent — a level, candidate Trump said derisively, that President Barack Obama became "the first president in modern history" never to reach in a single year.
New government data on Thursday morning show that Trump, too, has failed to reach the 3 percent promised land, according to one major metric. The Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis measured 2018 growth at 2.9 percent, matching the peak Obama enjoyed in 2015.

I don't know what it is. usually when there is an issue big or small going on with Trump, the media pundits have a catch phrase they use and I'm not sure if they all get a phone call with the catch phrase of the day or something but yesterday it was "the wheels are coming off" every single one of them from Mad cow to morning joke was saying it. Last week the phrase was "grappling"  the week before was "weaponizing" It's amazing that they all use the same catch phrase of the day. I'm looking for today's phrase or maybe it will be tomorrows. Who knows? And how do they all know to use the same one? And on the same day. It's amazing.

Ahh, talking points. Words of the day that are thrown out there, frequent phrases that are used in the hopes someone will pick them up and use them. Kinda like when you refer to Democrats as the violent left, that oldie but goodie.

That's what most people agree on though because they are the violent left, happens just about every day. Knocking the hats off people that wear MAGA hats, punching a conservative handing out pamphlets on a college campus, creating fake racial crimes that start riots. The list goes on.

The way this game is played is the media describes one party different than the other, one can be deemed more favorable depending on the party and who is describing it. So there is an opposing view that may or may not be as "lightly salted" as the other.
