I sat in my room waiting for Lynn to return.
Only it wasn't Lynn, it was Ruby. "Ruby what are you doing here? You and Lynn switch places?"
"Well she wanted me to come have a look at this, to get a second opinion in case it needs stitches"
"This is new to me!" I said.
"Dammit" I thought. "Dammit, dammit dammit" "Fuck"
I just breathed deeply, it was what it was, there was nothing I could do about it now.
Lynn came back, finished cleaning the wound and Ruby went to finish up whatever she was doing before the medic got called. I walked with Ruby to the official nurses station and Dan and Johnathan met us there.
There was humor already which made the mood much nicer. Johnathan looked at it right away and declared that stitches were indeed needed.
"Fuck"
"Can this be done here?" I inquired.
The other option was to take me down the mountain, across the lake and to the nearest emergency room. That could take about 3-4 hours.
No one seemed to answer me at first. Especially since I had told them about my fear of needles and pain. I don't know which made me more worried, having the procedure done right there or going down the mountain.
I was just going to have to bite it, literally. I bit down on my sweatshirt harder as they cleaned it up and got it ready for stitches. Oddly enough there was not much pain during the whole procedure or even when I took a tumble.
I was trying to make it back on time and realized it was getting later and later in the day. The dirt was soft, I had already been stung by a bee right near my ankle, which was more annoying than anything, but I think my whole balance and mind were off.
Down I went. Right on top of a rock I assume. I didn't take time to look. I get grossed out easy. Really easy.
This thing was deep.
Fucking deep.
But there was little blood and little pain, so I knew I was okay. I just had to get down the mountain and to the medic station. I really felt like a dumbass. I hate getting injured.
I got to the lodge and asked Jerry to call the medic for me. She came and looked and agreed it was pretty deep. I asked if I could take a shower, she agreed that was a good idea.
I showered and rinsed everything as best as I could without looking at it.
When Lynn walked me to the medic station I assumed they were just going to wash it out more and put some peroxide on it and bandage it up.
I had no idea I would have Don, who I find extremely nice to look at, holding my leg down while they numbed up my knee and Johnathan stitching me up. Military doctors. Very impressive. 6 stiches. It will heal just fine.
