Mom & Wife, is looking to leave this world. . . . .
#1
. . . . . is she out of her mind, or just looking to gracefully end her marriage? Or is she really going to be a pioneer helping humanity?

What do you think, is she wrong to leave her family forever, it will be like she died?

Story in today's news:

Winning a trip to Mars is quite literally an out-of-this-world opportunity, but what does it mean for those you leave behind? The Mars One Project is a privately-funded mission that will take 100 people to live on the Red Planet starting in 2026.

One of those people is 36-year-old Sonia Van Meter who volunteered for the expedition. The Virginia woman is a wife and stepmom to two sons aged 13 and 11. Her husband, Jason Stanford, says he's come to terms with his wife leaving them.

Sonia applied for the Mars One project, the idea was nothing more than "cocktail chatter" — but then she actually became a semifinalist for the mission and things got ugly. Not between her and her husband — but the rest of the world.

He says she received a lot of backlash and was accused of trying to abandon her family and "seeking glory." So, Jason wrote his first op-ed for Texas Monthly in April of last year supporting his wife.

Then she actually secured a spot and things got real for the family. Jason explains, "I wasn't prepared for just how much it would change the world she and I live in, so to speak." He says came to terms with his wife leaving the family in a decade for a greater purpose.

He says, "What could be my personal horror story would become the world's grandest adventure, and understanding how this might change my life forced me to realize that Mars One could change everyone's life. If it succeeds in its mission ... it would change the history of humanity by expanding our boundaries beyond this planet. This was bigger than me ... it's time to accept my role ... We're just an ordinary married couple in an extraordinary situation, and we're taking it one small step for man at a time."

So again, what do you think, should the applicants for this mission have been limited to "single" people only, who would not be leaving their kids & or spouse behind? I myself have mixed feelings.

Going to Mars is a cool idea...in theory...but unless we can establish a permanent colony there and perfect warp drive/FTL technology it's huge waste of time, money and resources.

Currently, it has been said it's supposed to take 7 months to get to Mars. Actually I really thought it would take longer then that myself! hah

yeah but with the time differentials, how much more time passes on Earth? 2-3 years or more?

Then why take a woman who will be 46 at the time?

Something smells about this whole story. Regardless, a lot can happen in 10 years. Just because she says she's going now, if she changes her mind in 8-10 years, what are they going to do...put her on the flight at gun point?

In the meantime, if there's any truth to all this, she (and her family) get their two minutes of fame while they say she's going.

I don't know all of the details, but if you are going to establish that a colony is possible you may want to gather data from a range of different age groups as applicable. Just a wild guess, but any data gathered on something like this is good data.

Back in the old days, spouses could be separated for months or years at a time due to work or other concerns. Whoever started the notion that married couples should be tied at the waist did a disservice to partnerships.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

Not saying anyone should go to the extreme of going to Mars but it's very important that couples have their own interests aside from what they have together. I don't want to be joined at the hip with anyone. Nooooo.
