Yup it fly's by the Earth Halloween. Today is 10⁄21 and we have been told about this maybe a week ago. it got me thinking that if something was coming and the Earth was in the bull's-eye we may have 2-3 weeks to scramble around like nut cases before it whacks us. With all the technology the Hubbles the radio telescope arrays and amateur skywatchers we still have no clue what is coming at us. Space is black we just cannot see these things no matter how hard we try and fool ourselves.

They manage to see a few, but damn sure not all. The ones they do see are from reflected light from other sources, others are spotted as they temporarily block the visible light from background stars from certain viewpoints. It is entirely possible that there is a big one out there headed this way with EARTH stamped on it, just never know.
Not one of those things I can fix so not gonna worry about it. Always the boy scout though, Be Prepared

Because that's about how long people have known about this one. Although they do have some that are 20 yrs off into the future. Scientists are worse than Politicians!!

I hope NASA or the defense industry has some plan to deal with an asteroid with "earth" stamped on it. A giant, nuke it out of space without any fall out type plan.

They must. Right? I've never given any thought to something like that happening. Oh Gods.

There is no "Nuke" thing that would never work the momentum would just bring a bunch of small meteors packed with radiation. It would have to be nudged or we would have to be nudged. With plenty of time in between. Nope, we are just a ball on a big billiard table.

If it hit and wiped out part of the earth I imagine that might cause some chaos, huh?

Could wipe out our atmosphere and render earth as just another satellite around the sun. Spinning off axis and out of orbit would be a slower death, so if it's me... I'd rather be at ground zero when it hits the earth. Naked of course.

Well this one is big enough to take out a few small countries. And chances are you won't be naked unless you're really planning to scare the shit out the kids this Halloween.

Do you think anyone would tell us if it was going to hit?

If I was an astronomer and knew I don't think I would say anything either.

Maybe Bruce Willis will fly into the meteor and blow it up.

I really thought one of the purposes of the International Space Station was to serve as a launch point to destroy an incoming object?
Maybe I've got that confused with an old episode of Star Trek?

You can't stop God's will, MS. I thought you of all people would know that.
