Hey mockers, it's been a while since I last posted. But I'm always watching.
Anyway, yesterday literally the craziest and scariest thing happened. There was a man shot and killed in my front lawn.
Long story short, I was at work when this happened. My fiancé left the house at 11:33-11:34 as captured on our Ring doorbell camera. My ring doorbell went off again at 11:59 and there was a police officer on the other end. I chatted with him back and forth for a few minutes trying to figure out WTF was going on. I think I exited my body for a moment thinking that somehow my fiancé was involved/hurt in the incident. Either way, I'm talking to the officer and he says they want to review the footage from our camera. I live about a 5 min drive from my house so I drove over there.
Sadly, the camera did not pick up the incident. The body was still on the ground when I arrived. There were evidence markers everywhere. I watched them bag up the body. It was the craziest thing I have ever seen. So sad. I have a pretty good idea what happened but considering this is an active investigation, I don't know how much I should put out there... The man who was shot was killed and my neighbor is currently in custody. He is due to appear in court at 1:45. The detective I sent videos from our camera to said he would give me a call today with an update on what he knows.
And I'm hesitant to even mention this, but strangely enough, my neighbor that is in custody right now was caught on video on our porch day before yesterday (the day before this happened). He rang the doorbell and we presume he was trying to bum a cig (he asked my fiancé a week or so ago if he smoked I guess) but who knows. It's got me creeped out, big time. The detective asked for that video as well.
I'm super upset our camera didn't catch the incident. We recently turned the sensitivity down on the motion sensor because it was going off every time a car drove by our house.

Nice to see you in Mock, tlynne! Thank you, Duchess - nice to be here. I meant to pop in a couple weeks ago as I've been following the Evelyn Boswell case in TN, but got sucked into the FB groups.
It's extremely disturbing what happened yesterday. My fiancé just messaged me that the news crew is back out in front of our house right now. So freaky. So sad. I have been sick over this ever since it happened. Between the DYT tornadoes last spring, mass shooting downtown last summer, and now this, I am seriously considering moving. WTF!

And I am getting a handgun. We have one already but I want my own. This shit is ridiculous. I am anti-violence but pro-protection. I hope it just never comes down to me having to use it.

That's what I say too! Seriously, it would make me so mad. I'd want to kick him after putting a bullet in him.

That is crazy! I would not feel comfortable there after that. What is the rest of your neighborhood like? Do you know any of your other neighbors? Or is it "everyone keeps to themselves" kind of place?

Or is it "everyone keeps to themselves" kind of place? So it's east Dayton, OH... about 5 min from the downtown area. I have lived in this general area for 8 years and my fiancé about 15 years. It's not the fancy part of down by any means, but it's certainly not the "hood". There's generally a mix of older folks who have lived here 20+ years and young couples/families. Lots of families move out of the area when their kids hit grade school age for better schooling opportunities or send their kid to a neighboring school via the voucher program. There's a decent mix of tenant owned homes and rentals. Probably a rental every 5ish properties I would assume? My fiancé and are are both in our 30s and bought our home almost 3 years ago. Have had absolutely no issues/concerns since moving in here. The duplex next to us was previously occupied by African refugees (there's a refugee program here in the city and they place them in homes) but the duplex was sold in march 2019 and they basically flipped one side, rented that out, then flipped the other side, and rented that side out. The unit furthest from our house (where the suspected shooter lives), these tenants have only been there since late January/early February and definitely made their presence known after moving in. This is not just us saying this, but our other neighbors as well.
As for the neighborhood dynamic, I mean, we aren't sitting on each others porches having beers every night lol, but my fiances buddy John lives caddy-corner from us, our neighbors next to us on the other side are an older couple with an affection for plants much like myself, and we spend a decent amount of time talking over the fence in our back yard over plants and neighborhood happenings. A couple of the houses across the street are occupied by multiple families, like grandma lives in one house, daughter in another, her kid and his wife/kids in another. We all pick up the trash around the area, we wave and say hi to people out walking their dogs, we get tons of trick-or-treaters. It's a pretty average, drama-free, quiet, middle class neighborhood. There is a decent amount of police presence too as the station is just a couple blocks up from the house and our street is kind of a cut through street (lots of one-way streets in the neighborhood).

What a wild and weird thing to happen in your front yard. Disturbing, for sure.
I'm very glad you and your fiance weren't hurt though.
