MATERIAL STUFF

Do you consider yourself materialistic?

Unfortunately, I do. I love my stuff. My things mean a great deal to me but I wouldn't say I'm money-oriented. Money is just the means to get what I want.

Agreed. Money. Its the one thing keeping me from quitting my State job. I don't like the idea of having none or less of it to spend on stuff.

I think I used to be, much more than now. Not sure if it is because we are both if retirement age, and money issues will be greater. It seems we put a lot more thought into buying new stuff now than before. Mainly due to cost, and partly due to not having the shit lying around when time comes to downsize, or clean out after we have gone to the Great Beyond.

I am no where near as bad as I once was. There was a day when I saw something I liked and I would buy it. Now I will think about it and decide if I really need it or not. Part of that comes from the downsizing from my other house and the two storage units full of stuff I don't use, but had to have.

A few years ago Cracker put a thought in my head about clutter, now if I haven't used something in 3 years it goes. Today I even put dates on my paint with a marker so I don't end up with a paint collection.

Good idea Maggot. I should really look at my paint storage area. I know there is used paint from 5 years ago on that shelf.

When I was young, I was very materialistic. I wanted the best of everything right then and there, I didn't want to wait for anything to get it.

There was no problem, as I had plenty of money in the bank. Any time I wanted money, I just floated a loan! I had plenty of nice things that I wanted, and I had plenty of loans. (Too many)

Now that I am mature, and can afford all the nice things I want and have without needing a loan for them, it somehow doesn't have the same thrill (for lack of a better word) as it did when I couldn't afford them.

Go figure, crazy right? hah

I have a few treasures and tend to hoard books but I am in no way materialistic. Things are just things. I've seen too many life time collections wind up as somebody's post mortem estate sale.
Thank god I am oblivious to the opinions of others while caught in the blinding splendor of my own cleverness.

Not bad, just way busier with household stuff these days. She owns the joint but lacks handyman skill set so I have been patching, nailing, screwing, laying pipe, spackling...and then after that we work on the house.

I think JCPenney is making me more materialistic. I just used my JCPenney rewards plus a coupon code to get 2 bras (that were part of a Buy 1, get the second one for a penny) for $20. I basically got $60 worth of bras for $20. And it earned me a Bra perk Reward for $15 off select intimates.

Not if I can help it. Some underwire bras pinch, some push my barely B cup boobs up nicely.
