SAUDI ARABIA & THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JOURNALIST JAMAL KHASHOGGI
The White House is preventing Gina Haspel from briefing the Senate on Jamal's murder. What the actual fuck is that shit. Why would they keep her from doing that?

Because it's lurid and would incite them further to do something.

What is to be gained by making Saudia Arabia an enemy? If you want, take money completely off the table. What are the repercussions for making an enemy out of them? It is like Acosta screaming about Otto Warrior to Kim Jong Un during peace talks.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent at least 11 messages to his closest adviser, who oversaw the team that killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi, in the hours before and after the journalist’s death in October, according to a highly classified CIA assessment.

Mohammed bin Salman was allegedly in touch with Saud al-Qahtani immediately before and after Khashoggi went missing in Istanbul on October 2.

Qahtani is believed to have supervised the 15-man murder squad and was in touch with them at the same time as he was communicating with the prince, according to a CIA assessment reported by the Wall Street Journal.

Although the U.S. sanctioned 17 Saudis believed to be involved in the murder, Donald Trump has largely stood by the crown prince, defying intense pressure from lawmakers to impose broader sanctions on Saudi Arabia.

Khashoggi's killing continued to dominate the West's relations with Saudi Arabia at the G-20 Economic Summit.

U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir are said to have 'discussed the importance of making progress' in the investigation into Khashoggi's killing during talks.

British PM Theresa May told the prince that the killers of Khashoggi should be held to account, her office said after the two leaders met.

French President Emmanuel Macron told the prince in a separate meeting that Europeans will insist on international experts being part of the investigation into Khashoggi's killing.

Western nations are also calling for an end to the Saudi-led military campaign in neighboring Yemen, which was launched by Prince Mohammed, as a humanitarian crisis there worsens.

As an aside, the street outside the Saudi embassy in DC either has been, or is going to be, renamed Jamal Khashoggi Way.  Smiley_emoticons_smile

It's encouraging to see Congress beginning to perform its check on the Executive branch as the Democrats prepare to take over the House of Representatives.

Bi-partisan congressional leaders have been briefed by CIA Director Gina Haspel in regards to the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

They have put forth a resolution contradicting President Trump's stance and calling for the U.S. to directly denounce MBS personally for his complicity (based on the evidence they've reviewed).

“This resolution — without equivocation — definitively states that the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia was complicit in the murder of Mr. Khashoggi and has been a wrecking ball to the region jeopardizing our national security interests on multiple fronts,” Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-S.C.) said in a statement accompanying the release of the resolution. “It will be up to Saudi Arabia as to how to deal with this matter. But it is up to the United States to firmly stand for who we are and what we believe.”

“You have to be willfully blind not to come to the conclusion that this was orchestrated and organized by people under the command of MBS and that he was intricately involved in the demise of Mr. Khashoggi,” Graham said following the briefing, referring to Mohammed by his initials. He added that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who briefed senators last week, were at best being “good soldiers” and at worst were “in the pocket of Saudi Arabia” for presenting the evidence of Mohammed’s involvement as inconclusive.

They're also pushing a measure to cut back the U.S. support to the Saudi-led war and humanitarian crisis in Yemen, encouraging the Saudis to stop striking civilians and cutting off much-needed food and aid, and instead work to reach an agreement with the Houthi rebel leaders in the country.

At the same time, there's a separate ongoing investigation into Trump's potential violations of the Constitution's emoluments clause (which prohibits using the presidency for personal financial gain).

One area of focus is the amount of money spent by the Saudis on Trump Hotel rooms. Of specific concern is a Saudi-funded operation which solicited U.S. veterans to lobby lawmakers in DC against the repeal of Obama's veto denying families of 9 / 11 the ability to sue the Saudi government for their alleged role in the attacks (15 of the 19 attackers were Saudis).

The veterans were put up at expensive Trump Hotels with food and drinks comp'd on four different occasions. Veterans interviewed said they were not informed that the lobbying was on behalf of Saudi Arabia and said they were instead told that the effort was on behalf of the U.S. military to ensure that U.S. soldiers couldn't be sued for actions in combat.

I expected bullshit from Pompeo but not from Mattis, I'm disappointed in him, I truly thought he was a better person than that but it appears he's really no better than anyone else connected to this administration.

trump bragged to Bob Woodward that he protected the Saudi Crown Prince, MBS,  from Congressional probes after Jamal was murdered and cut into pieces with a bone saw. "I saved his ass, I was able to get Congress to leave him alone".

Hey MAGA people, it's disgusting that y'all would support & defend the person who sanctions murder and dismemberment.

I doubt it would have been done had he not felt he couldn't get away with it. trump & kushner protected the murderer, they went so far as to deny MBS was involved.
