Another time I saw an old lady drive straight into the wall at the post office. She turned into the parking space, but she didnt stop. I was going to get out of my car to check on her, but there was already ten other people helping her so I figured they didn't need anymore help.

I worked with a woman whose father was pretty far into his Alzheimer's but they never took his keys away because he was such a complete asshole that they were afraid to. He ended up driving several hundred miles north and dying from the elements when he got out of the truck and got lost. They had no idea where he was until several days later when someone found his truck. Fortunately, his little dog was still in the truck and still alive but I'm sure his rotting corpse had a few chunks eaten out of it.
Take the car keys away from family members with dementia, people.

I remember one story she told me about his decline that still makes me laugh... she and her sister asked him what he wanted for dinner, if tacos sounded good. He goes "Tacos! What the fuck are TACOS!?!"
You're pretty far gone if you don't remember what the fuck tacos are.

When I worked at a shop we had a vehicle that belonged to someone who was not fit to drive. They brought it to us and asked if we could keep it until they found a place for him. It was sad. But also a good idea.

That is a good idea. No temptation if the ride isn't there.

My grandmother had severe Alzheimers. I was expecting her to cry when I had to tell her that the nursing home called this morning and said grandpa passed away and she put up her hands and made a fart noise like who gives a shit. They were only happily married for fifty plus years.

At least neither of them wanted to drive!
Physically impaired to drive a vehicle doesn't just have to apply to older people.
It also applies to "anyone of any age" who becomes physically impaired for what ever reason to
competently dive a vehicle.
That's why appearing in person is necessary for "all" driver's license renewals.
My license renews every "6" years, I have to appear in person, I have no problem with that!
There are some states where driver's licenses are issued through the mail, & or even on line"

I think that's great, but only because the pain of losing someone you love is just so fucking awful.

Today, I saw a driver (maybe 35 to 40) going the wrong way (zig- zaging) on a one way street!
