HOMELESS
#1
I just saw a shanty town that's home to about 30 homeless people. Well that looks senseless in print. Jesus. Anyway, it's being dismantled and it struck me that this person with next to nothing made their bed when they began their day. I noticed that when the itty bitty excavator removed it from the lean-to. That's someone with some pride with the little bit they have. I don't know why I'm telling you this.

up north from me there are places called shanty town they even give them other names. years ago we used to drive through them because they kinda looked like old western towns, they used horses and had a general store a laundry a restaurant but not like anything you would find in the world today. they look at you funny as you drive by and they know who lives there and who doesn't. There was a movie called "the Beans" about one of the towns like that in Maine families inter marriage where cousins marry cousins. It's a world that is still out there that never gets seen.

Many homeless people do not want to work or be "saved"

It made the front page of that rag, The Daily Mail, which is my guilty pleasure. LC got me looking at that. She once told me that their massacre of the English language was criminal and one couldn't believe some of what they read BUT they had the best pix. I've been looking at ever since. Ha!

I read the story. He's a productive human and even though he's living that lifestyle I think he's probably above average intelligence given the way he self taught himself a skill like that. He made something out of nothing and I really admire that. By the time I got to the end of the story I was rootin' for him to move his home and not let it be demolished. I do understand he invested all that time knowing it was going to come to this though.

Sigh,  we had our first homeless death of the season last night.    22 yo kid.  Currently unknown whether he froze to death,  or OD'd.

A couple of days ago,  some town in Maine,  decided that it was going to unload a homeless person in NH.

Let's shuffle them around

I know it's everywhere but goddam, every city owns a few empty buildings,  I'd rather my taxes go towards housing them, than paying for autopsies and burials.

Aftermath of the death 2 days ago:

All of the local politicians are saying that we need to do more.
These same politicians are the ones who voted to limit space and money.
The shelter that I volunteered at for the past 3 years, has a new management company now requires a full background check, and  the volunteers have to pay for it (yet they wonder why no one is volunteering this year).
