It happens to both sides of the argument. There is a real threat to competent news sources today. It's hard to say what's real and what's fake and today's news dwells on peoples fears and expectations in order to garner view's. It's almost like they are in competition to get the most hit's and you will never see one apologize for their incompetence at least in the way they put out the lie.
