Food Bank
#1
I'm volunteering at the food bank tomorrow. I used to be terrified of the food bank. But I went with a friend a couple of weeks ago and I was amazed at how many people I saw.
The system they have worked out here is a drive up system and they just load a box right into your car. I think that people used to be able to come inside to pick out what they wanted, but this way is more "covid" friendly so it is the way they are doing it. Tomorrow I will help sort food from the local grocery stores into boxes.
When I went with my friend I noticed many items were close to expriation and I mean of course it is just stuff that people don't want and soooooo many beans.

One town I used to live in had a weekly cheese drive. Cheese and dairy for its food bank. I am hoping to introduce something like that here.

I don't know why I was so afraid of going. I was afraid to see people who needed food. It sounds dumb, but that is just how I feel. i don't know what I expected but people were showing up in all sorts of vehicles. I mean its not like this town has a ton of old vehicles but I just didn't expect to see nice cars pulling up and then realizing how many people are out of work for whatever reason. I totally had pre-concieved notions in my head about everything honestly.

I remember seeing some of the lines for food when the pandemic first started. It was kinda shocking to me to see how many needy people there was and the people helping them are angels.

...now our Love Child is the angel.

No angel. Not at all. There are people that have been doing it far more regularly than I ever will and I just commited to 2x a month.
It wasn't bad at all. It was kind of fun and interesting to see how it all worked. But also sad to just see food being thrown around a little. The guy doing the vegies was just throwing them into the boxes. I wanted to clober him!
Some of the food was not worth giving away.
We did 65 boxes today, last week they had 70.
