My youngest son still lives with me. Yesterday, he mentioned going to lunch with one of his cousins. I invited another of his cousins (after asking the original 2), who was the third in that group (group meaning they used to go camping and hang out together all the time), he also recently moved into the area. The other thing I did was talk to the restaurant owner (where they planned to meet-i am friends with the owner) and arranged a table for them, as well as paid for their meal (including tip) my son is pissed off at me. He said that I took charge of his plans-which, I kinda did.
I wasn't planning on joining them, just wanted to give them a stress free lunch, like they used to have.
Meh!!!

Maybe he thinks you treated him like a child and embarrassed him in front of others by doing so and he's insulted & hurt.

I actually apologized to him just before he left, and explained my reasoning for everything. He was fine with it, but said next time I feel like doing something like that, talk to him first.
You are very much right, he is the baby of all the cousins (and he's 22) and he's trying to assert his adulthood. Being fair to me, at any cousins meet up, one of my brothers/sisters (not biological) has paid for it. To be fair to him, he is not frivolous with money anymore, and can very easily pay for everything himself.

Yeah, my mother used to say that too, between wooden spoons being broken over my back. I tried to be better than what I was taught.
Doesn't matter now tho. Shit head son is super pissed at me. Apparently, he complained to his cousins about what I did, and they took my side and reamed him out, (I mean, they got a free meal in a private room out of it, BUT!!!!, now I've ruined his entire holiday

Other than the one time I smacked my son in the mouth for mumbling under his breath that I was a fucking bitch for making him get ready for school, I have never hit my kids. It just seems like a strange thing to do. I will tell them off though. I have a friend whose adult kids walk all over her. They didn't even invite her over for Thanksgiving. I would have invited myself, rubbed my dirty shoes all over their couch and asked when is dinner ready.

I should have, really. At least both of my nephews called and thanked me. My son, pretty much sulked like a damn baby all afternoon.
If what my nephews say is true, I'm going to have to buy my friend a nice bottle of scotch or something. He really gave them the vip treatment.

I definitely owe my friend a bottle of something. When I went into the restaurant this morning, to settle up the bill, he told me to just tip out the waitress, and the rest was on the house. According to my nephew, those boys (I still think of them as boys, even though they are 22, 30 and 35) were given a private area, a dedicated waitress, and every food item that was on the menu. Where was something like this when I was young?
My kid, grudgingly thanked me, and I told him not to worry, that I would never do something nice for him again. Now he is pissed because I have a bad attitude

OH my.
A lesson is never learned.
Why do I feel like I am reading something from the Sopranos tho?!
Tony would have beat the shit out of his kid if he was ungrateful.
OH-I can think about my uncle tho-he doesn't give anything w/out strings attached. I make sure I say thank you, but I am still saying thank you for something from a year ago-he gets testy too and won't talk to you. Its ridiculous. He is very manipulative.
