Food on hand

I didn't mean to sound like I was telling you what to eat. I was talking about myself, I try to keep it healthy as possible. I have to make up for the cigarettes and beer so I limit sugar, salt, dairy, red meat and any processed foods.

I didn't take it that way at all. I think I eat fairly healthy, especially when I have quick access to fresh foods.

But I think I will leave some behind and pick them up when I come back at the end of the month so I don't eat them all. I will try the celery in salsa, that doesn't sound too bad. I've eaten carrots in salsa.

If you want to eat unhealthy the possibilities are endless. Not saying I'm 100% healthy, I got junk in my pantry with the best of them, but I mostly try to keep it in moderation.

I made a run to Trader Joes. Do they have those everywhere? It is healthy, overly packaged, reasonably priced food and supplies.
I bought mostly snacks tho. Snacks. I have a ton of chips for salsa dipping and other stuff, I don't know what I was thinking. I've never had this much food on hand before, it feels wierd and excesive.

They have Trader Joe's in Orlando, but not here. We got a Lucky's for a short while until it went out of business, that was a bummer.                                                                                                                                                                  The thing about chips and unhealthy snacks is you can't eat them if you don't buy them. Instead buy celery and dip that in salsa.

Buy celery, dip it in a Bloody Mary.

Well I have the tuna, but the mayo won't arrive until Wednesday, same with granola, the milk I got will arrive on Wed also. I will not starve. I have more than enough food. I couldn't bring all of my items w/ me in one trip, the others are being shipped, I just didn't think ahead what I was pairing together.

I have those same totes with the yellow lids and they are my favorite.

What is the A-frame behind the house, just a storage shed type thing?

Yeah I have those same totes with the yellow lids also. They ARE great. I need to grab a few more though if I ever move again.

The only sucky thing about the yellow totes is that once I filled them they became too heavy to lift and travel on the boat. So I used them for lighter stuff like bedding, towels and tp, papertowels.

Can you see the little hole dug out in the snow near the porch? I kept a tote in there, the snow is actually starting to melt now so the top got all wet.

Behind the house is the storage area, there is also a garage and a wood shed. Unfortunately to access the wood shed I have to climb over the snow, which isn't a big deal but as soon as it froze it became tricky, so I used a shovel and axe to carve out steps and make it rougher for stepping on.

No big headaches. I was surprised my first paycheck came in. With the way the whole winter went and waiting for everything I was sure they wouldnt' be fast on that. So I am glad about that. I still didn't get my relocation package tho-so that sucks for now. But everyone here has been so nice. I've had 2 welcome parties, and someone brought me goat cheese and someone else brought me applesauce.

Oh and I don't have internet at the new house I am at. So I am currently in my office just to say hi to people etc etc. 

I feel at home here and at peace. I love it and am overwhelmed with good feelings.

Well I dipped in to my refried beans and corn tonight as the fridge is still not here and it has been getting warmer so keeping food in my totes on the porch isn't as cute as it was at first.
I had beans, rice, corn and tortilla w/ melted cheese.

The fridge gets here tomorrow and I have a grocery order set to arrive on Friday thankfully.

One thing that i have loved having on hand is smoked salmon! Yum. You can put that in the freezer and take it out to eat later.

So my last grocery order did not go as smooth as hoped. I got this Chai tea that I started drinking again-and they sent me decaf. They fucking sent me decaf, and one item was missing-so they sent me a replacement of the chai tea-but not in the liquid form like I had specified-they sent tea bags.
So I made a trip downlake to go grocery shopping so I could just get the stuff myself-also one store I buy specialty items wasn't going to be able to ship for a week-so I just went for a quick overnight to get groceries.
That was 2 weeks ago.
Time for another order-it took me a fucking week to try to get everything right on my list and I still forgot stuff.
I sort of fucking hate this now-I think that along with the crappy internet-this part of it sucks. I mean on one hand I'm not starving-but I just get creative at the end of my fun/fresh/nice groceries.
The one thing I have to look forward to is that the local garden is ready for eating so I will start buying from there and supplementing by doing garden time.

If it's not too personal could you elaborate a little on that process? Is it done by boat? Hiking? Are there vehicles where you're at? I feel like you may have already mentioned that question about vehicles, but I can't recall. How long does it take to get from your cabin to the store?

There is no easy way to explain it.

To get downlake I get on a ferry/boat service to go 50 miles into town. It doesn't return on the same day so I must stay over night. I don't have a car downlake anymore so I walk from the dock to the store to the place I stay, which is all within 2 miles. Or if I get lucky I borrow a car.

There are vehicles where I live. I often ride my bike to work,but I do also drive-especially if I am going to pick up 3 boxes of groceries from the boat dock, which I did today.
So if you want groceries delivered you email the store before noon and they will come the next day or a day you specify. Then you go to the boat dock and pick up the groceries from there. They litterly take them off the boat, set the boxes of grocerie on the dock and people come at all times during the day to pick them up.

From my cabin to the boat dock is 2 miles. There is a gift shop that also has some food-but things like gum is $6 they have basic pasta and pasta sauce and other items, but soo expensive.

Thank you very much! I wondered if it was an involved scenario and I see it takes having a plan. I know it must be a pain in the ass at times, but I think it sounds wonderful. I enjoy reading about your life in the wilderness and I always find it interesting.

Can you get alcohol there or do you have to go down lake for that too?
