I read that over three dozen artists have cancelled their appearance at this year's SXSW Festival, due to sponsorship by the U.S. Army and their connection with Raytheon.

It seems these artists are protesting the use of Raytheon arms, allegedly being used against Palestinians.

To my knowledge (and I am no weapons expert), Raytheon is the supplier of the Patriot Missile System . . . a defensive weapon . . . currently used by Israel.

On the other hand, Raytheon provides Ukraine with an offensive weapon . . . the Javelin anti-tank missile.  The Javelin is not used by Israel.

So . . . is it really the U.S. Army, and its connection to Raytheon, that's really causing them to cancel in protest?

I don't think so.

I was complaining to a friend , a guy who got stuck at Guantanamo guarding the highest value target because of covid. I was saying how all those Javelins were getting wasted in Ukraine when they are going to be needed in Taiwan. He says we are sending all the ones that are timing out, once they go beyond the shelf life it automatically won't fire, a million dollar paperweight!
