Fad Dieting
#1
A friend of mine just started talking about the GLP shots people are doing to lose weight. Those that don't live under a rock like I do have probably heard of them. I had not and did not know this was a thing.
They are designed for diabetes control.
ALSO
They are designed by pharmaceutical companies who are just lining their pockets.

She doesn't care.
She has struggled her whole life with her weight and healthy eating choices. She spends much of her time in life helping others-in big ways, and neglecting herself. I usually stay out of any arguments with her because it just doesn't work. This one I am going to be loud and voice my opinion about and I did.
At least she did say she will talk to her doctor about it and from what she says her doctor is pretty wholistic-so I am sure she will not encourage it-unless she sees $$ from the pharmaceutical company.

I fucking hate the pharmecueticals!!! I can't even spell it properly. fucking fuck.

Eating healthy and exercising isn't rocket science. The only reason people have a hard time with it is because they don't have the will power to do it and look for easy fixes instead. I'm not shaming them because I'm a heavy beer drinker, but there is no magic pill to keep me from drinking, I just have to have the will power and determination to stop it myself. I tried the switching to tequila fad and almost got a DUI.

I hesitated to post because I didn't want to be the person who says eating healthy is expensive, but the reality is that fresh fruit & vegetables ARE expensive. I don't diet, ever, and I don't own scales. It took me awhile to be okay with that and it was something I struggled with. I used to purge and it was so bad for me, I was just a kid. I had to learn to stop giving food power.

I don't think eating healthy is anymore expensive than eating processed junk, in fact it's cheaper. A frozen pizza is 12 bucks and a bag of dried lentils and a head of cauliflower is 7 bucks. Assuming you have some salt and pepper and spices in your cabinet, you can make a lentil soup that will last for two days.

Same with breakfast. A box of sugar laden cereal is 8 bucks. A container of plain oatmeal and some bananas is 6 bucks. A container of plain yogurt and whatever fruit is on sale is 6 bucks. A dozen eggs and some frozen spinach to scramble in with your eggs is 8 bucks. People don't want to eat that though, they'd rather have the cereal and then say eating healthy is too expensive.

Everyone isn't as capable as you are, you know your way around food and can make something from nothing...just sayin', and I agree that the biggest battle is will power, having will power leads to success.

What are you talking about? You have the choice to cook the oats according to the directions on the box which is very simple and top it with some sliced bananas or feed your bastard, picky kids Lucky Charms and then complain it's too expensive to eat healthier.

Sally I absolutely agree with what you are saying. That being said, my friend has not learned to cook for herself. She did not do well in school, I don't know why, but she often struggles with reading comprehension.
These are things that do not come naturally to her.
I am going to suggest she try some cooking classes. Maybe some local health food stores have some classes.

Yikes : (
Sorry to hear that. Is she continuing on with it? Are there other side effects that she has experienced? And if you don't want to answer I understand, does she eat healthy and is she an active person and did those things change when she started doing the shots?

I was thinking the same thing actually-that fresh produce is more expensive than processed food. But maybe Sally is right. I just price checked a couple of things and it did seem very reasonable.
Maybe we've been programmed to believe that.

Not everything has to be organic either. Some chicken on the grill and a bag of frozen vegetables is healthier and cheaper than getting the whole family fast food. The last time my daughter had her friends spend the night I got McDonald's for everyone and it cost me 60 bucks for a bunch of garbage.

The tired old lentils have directions on the back of the bag too. You just cover the damn things with water and simmer until soft. If you want to get fancy you can throw in a chopped onion and some garlic. You can also add in a spoonful of Better than Bouillon for added flavor. That stuff is pricey, but you can conveniently "forget" about it in the back of your cart while going through the self checkout.
