As fucking morbid as this is, that's a really bad idea.  A shitload of sleeping pills might kill you, but then your body might just reject them and you barf them up and wreck your liver.

In theory, yes. But I've arrived on scene once in Rancho Santa Fe where the guy (mid to late 50's) was discovered by his wife probably about a minute or so before he would have died.
Turned out he lost most of his brain, and all the rest of his will to live, but live he did- in a semi-vegetated state.

I think 'offing yourself' is perfectly respectable in some situations... like a horrible terminal disease or something. People should have the choice to be 'euthanized' in circumstances like that.

I think one of the most cowardly, manipulative things for a person to do, is start whining around to people that they are going to kill themselves. If you are having suicidal thoughts, but don't really want to die, check yourself into a fucking mental hospital.

I think it sucks that people are made to 'feel guilty' about people killing themselves. "What did I do wrong?" YOU didn't do anything wrong. If someone really wants to kill themselves (unless the attempt goes wrong), they will find a way.

The only real exception to that, is kids who get involved with drugs or who have emotional problems. Kids aren't really capable of making good judgment calls sometimes, and can be too easily influenced by peers and media.

I do agree with suicide or assisted suicide for someone that is terminally ill. I will never understand why society thinks it's ok to put down a sick animal but let a human being suffer the pain of a terminal illness. I have always felt that what Jack Kevorcian did was not criminal but a service to people in need.

Who but the person who is terminally ill and suffering should decide when it is time to check-out and leave this life?

Allow people to go with their dignity, on their time table, with their self respect intact.
