I know technically this is old news, it actually broke a couple years back. But I just watched a documentary about a lady named Tanya Head, who not only claimed to be a survivor of the South Tower of the WTC (76
th floor, I think) but her fiance was killed in the north tower.
She went on to become a member of a Survior support group, co-ordinated fundraisers, got the survivors access to Ground Zero (before it was just families of victims), gave tours of a memorial to dignitaries and so on. Soon it began to unravel when the NY Times was doing a follow up article in 2005 or so and realized that she was not among the survivors they interviewed after the attack....and no one really knew her.
Turns out it was all some elaborate hoax, just for the attention. She even said that her scarred up arm was from burns she suffered during her dramatic escape.
Is this lady fucking nuts..to take advantage of such a tragic event?

Oh, forgot to add..the name she gave as her fiance was actually a man who died in the attack. But his family never even heard of her.

Shouldn't we be applauding all the good things she did with her efforts to help others instead of criticizing her for being a raving complete asshole nut job?

Liquid, That is what they were saying during this documentary..some of the other survivors. That she was doing it for attention, yes, but she DID do some good things.
She apparently dissappeared, so no one was really exactly certain why she did it, since she got no financial gain from it all.
There was something about her family in Barcelona Spain being gangsters or something and she was the only one who did not get jail time...and she felt "left out and abandoned" by them.
Oh well, I still have to comment on what people won't do for their 15 minutes of fame.
