get ready for big bad bitch
#41
Meh... so far not such a big deal. We have several inches of snow out there... probably close to 6", but nothing to get freaked about. I guess the biggest part of the storm passed us by.

We DO have snow over ice though, and while I was outside shoveling my walk, I heard a tree nearby start cracking and splitting. Smiley_emoticons_shocked The powerlines don't appear to be sagging or anything though... I've seen them weighed down by ice before, so that they sagged a good 6' or more.

We've only had a very brief period of power flickering here so far (yesterday... knock on wood). So far, nothing to really be concerned about. I could probably get out and drive around if I needed to. The road appears mostly clear, but on checking the Dept of Trans road conditions, some roads are closed due to trees falling.

It's been snowing here for 22 hrs. now & is expected to continue until after 6:00 this evening...If anyone on my road needs emergency help, they are shit outta luck...You can't even tell there is a road out there...We are under a state of emergency, it was so bad at one point that all plows were ordered off the roads...It's being called a historic storm...I had to cancel my SuperBowl party, the only good thing about that is I now have enough food for DAYS...Heh, won't have to cook.

I think its a clear indication that god hates America.
We need to punish the French, ignore the Germans and forgive the Russians - Condoleezza Rice.

Sorry you guys are getting hit so hard, Duch. The snowplows were ordered off the road?? That's crazy.

It's still snowing here, but no longer seems to be accumulating on the roads. I guess we got 'lucky' this time around. =p

I hope you are all ok. Are you keeping a path clear to get to the horses?

The only thing I ever regretted about horse ownership, was having to slog out in the WORST weather to take care of them, several times a day, no matter what. That's dedication, I tell ya. They're pretty helpless without us though (when kept in a stall and such I mean...).

We'll be fine...Belle' & I are nice & cozy...Cowboy is up at the barn, I know he's been plowing & moving snow with his front end loader too...He took care of my horses for me, they are all hunkered down in run in sheds...I thought about bringing them in but, they kick the hell out of the stalls, they are fine too, munching hay and watching it snow.

Have they grown in big fuzzy winter coats? Or are they wearing blankets?

I know my horses used to hate being blanketed (except for the arabian, and she never did grow in a decent winter coat, so she liked her blanket). Damned blankets are a pita though... they get all twisted and shit.

Syber, where was that first photo taken? It looks a lot like the foothills of the Sierra Nevadas in California.

California-yes. Morgan Hill, actually.

The other pictures (after the 'collage') were taken in Oregon.

I tried to keep my horses barefoot as much as possible. The mustangX had no problems, her hooves were very tough and sound.

My little Abby had softer feet and I had to treat them daily with hoofmaker. They had a tendency to want to dry out in that climate. If I'd had her long enough to start riding her, I would've had to get her fitted with shoes... otherwise the rocky/sandy soil would have eaten her hooves up.

California, to my eye, has a unique look about it.

Would you think that was funny if you lived in the effected areas?

I dunno, maybe I'm losing my sense of humor. Smiley_emoticons_slash
