Original vs Cover
#1
Couple of forums I participate in have a similar thread, so thought I'd start one here. Post an original, and then follow it with a cover. Next poster voices their preference, and post's their own original/cover. I'll start it off with a Gerry Rafferty tune, covered by the Foo Fighters, Baker Street.

Dick (aka insignificant shitstain on the triple-dub), you're a fucking idiot that can't follow simple instructions...not surprising.

Lady Cop, I prefer the original, Elvis went a bit too fast with it, IMO.

How about this one. I think Cocker kicked the fucking shit out of this Gary Wright classic...what say you? (lol @ the cowbell wench)

i could go on with examples all night, of original blues artists and the later rockers' versions.
for example, the Stones did some great, lesser-known, credible blues!

Elvis was billed by SUN as a white boy who could sing black music, which was quite offensive to the parents of the day. ::lol::
Jerry Lee came out of the same stable.

There is a whole ego thing about "covers" in music. Play what is in your heart, sometimes it works other times it flops. It should be about the music, not who wrote it, sung it, don't go there. You can still give your message with a cover, a duet or an original.

I like Gerry Rafferty's original better than the Foo Fighters' cover (but Bonnie Raitt's cover from last year is a close second to the original).

Original: Soft Cell -- Tainted Love

Cover: Marilyn Manson -- Tainted Love
