the body they just found is burned beyond recognition.
and why was she out with a 19-year-old adult male? is he being questioned? The investigation into Debolt's disappearance continues while authorities await positive identification of the body. Great Bend officials would not comment on the whereabouts of the 19-year-old friend that supposedly picked her up.
i am looking for more on this story.
Kansas has not executed a child-killer since 1955. it may be time.
GREAT BEND, Kan.
The Kansas Attorney General's office says a body has been found a few miles outside of Great Bend.
Eyewitness News has been told the body is not identifiable. An autopsy will be conducted at the Sedgwick County Forensic Science Center in Wichita. Positive identification is expected sometime Wednesday.
Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings tells Eyewitness News there's limited information he can put out this early in the investigation, but he says law enforcement is now "focusing in a different direction than searching for DeBolt."
Law enforcement from Great Bend, Barton County, and the KBI are currently on the scene where the body was found.
YESTERDAY'S NEWS
she was only supposed to be gone for an hour, but police in Great Bend and the KBI are now looking for a 14-year-old girl missing for three days. Alicia DeBolt was last seen Saturday night.
Tammy Conrad says her daughter left her house with a 19-year-old man, and the two planned to go to a party. DeBolt had a midnight curfew and was supposed to meet another friend at a nearby gas station, but she never showed.
"I started calling at midnight because her curfew's midnight, and we have a system," says Conrad. "She'll text me back or she'll call me back. She didn't...and she hasn't."
Conrad says family members are growing increasingly nervous because they believe DeBolt's phone is off and no one has seen or heard from her since Saturday. She insists her daughter isn't a runaway.
"This is not like Alicia," says Conrad. "This is not a runaway. She did not run away. Somebody has my child, my baby girl. Somebody has her."
DeBolt was supposed to begin her first day of high school on Monday where family members say she was excited to begin cheerleading.
Conrad and DeBolt's sister went to the KBI's Great Bend headquarters Tuesday afternoon to establish a timeline of where DeBolt was and what she was doing when she disappeared.
They say the man DeBolt left with Saturday night was a friend. Law enforcement says it will not comment on who might have been with DeBolt when the teen disappeared, but they say they're only looking for one missing person.
Anyone with information about where the teen might be can call 1-800-KS-CRIME.
GREAT BEND — The family of a missing Great Bend teen is moving forward with funeral plans, even though authorities have not formally identified a body found Tuesday as 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt.
Jennifer Schartz, spokeswoman for Great Bend public schools, said this afternoon that although the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has not revealed results of an autopsy being performed in Wichita, the family is preparing for a funeral.
In a statement, she said Great Bend High School's "guidance counselors will become grief counselors in the coming days, weeks and even months, if necessary, as friends and classmates of Alicia DeBolt deal with her tragic death."

At 14, I never would have been allowed to go anywhere with a 19 yr. young man unless he was a family member. I'm not being snarky, I'm just commenting.

that was my first comment and thought, and all the locals are saying the same thing in newspaper.
she was 14, 19 is an adult.
police have not IDed him yet, i'm waiting.
Kansas AG just announced positive ID of burned body to be Alicia.
he also said they don't believe it was a random act.
NO mention of the 19-year-old "friend".
i am sorry, but i have to say it...what is wrong with this mother who lets a 14-year-old GO OUT to a party at 11PM? she hadn't even started 9th grade yet. and did not report her missing until 1 PM on sunday.
Is it normal behavior for family to start planning services before an ID has been made? I get that they thought it probably was her body but, I'd be fighting something like that every step of the way. I already think the mother is a half wit for letting her kid go with that young man, this just adds to my disgust of her.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I don't give a fuck that this isn't very nice to say. People should parent their friggin' kids and they would stand more than half a chance of making it to adulthood.
well look at that trailer-trash slob of a mother (seated). and NO i would not be calling the funeral director before body is IDed! jesus! what's the hurry??
interesting. i'd love to read probable cause to get search warrant signed by a judge. later today perhaps.

Local and state law enforcement personnel were at a southeast Great Bend residence late into the night Thursday after executing a search warrant at the home in connection with the disappearance and death of Great Bend teen Alicia DeBolt.
Great Bend Police, Barton County Sheriff’s Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation officers entered the house at 1801 Eighth Street at about 10 p.m. But, as spot lights and red-and-blue patrol car lights illuminated the scene, they remained there well past midnight. The warrant covered the entire premises, which included the house and garage.
However, authorities at the site said they doubted anyone would be taken into custody Thursday night. The adult male resident of the house was seen talking with officers as his children and dog sat on the curb nearby.
With yellow crime scene tape encircling the entire yard, investigators (some in white protective suits) went in and out of the buildings. The KBI’s mobile Crime Scene Unit was parked at the curb.
Officers said all statements on the warrant and what was found would come from the Kansas Attorney General’s Office in Topeka, but nothing would be released until later today. They did say their investigation into the death of 14-year-old DeBolt led them to the address.
In addition, they indicated they had the vehicle belonging to the wife of the man being questioned Thursday night. This was possibly a black Ford Escape, a small sport-utility vehicle.
The activity attracted numerous spectators. Some of them said the family that lived in the house had moved in about three weeks ago.
i REALLY want more details about this guy! why him? what have they got?
he is considered dangerous.
edit to add...he has been found. no details yet.
Attorney General Steve Six announced today that a person of interest has been identified in the investigation into the death of 14 year old Alicia Debolt of Great Bend. Attorney General Six is asking Kansans for assistance in obtaining information on Adam Joseph Longoria of Great Bend.
Longoria, also known as "Rocco", is a 36 year old white male, 5'7" weighing 160 lbs with brown hair and brown eyes. Longoria was last seen in Great Bend on Friday morning wearing a light brown t-shirt, blue baseball cap, and blue jeans.
Longoria is believed to be driving a 2002 white Ford Explorer with red lettering on each door reading "Venture Corporation" with Barton County license plates UGJ 366. The vehicle was stolen from the Venture Corporation in Great Bend.
"At this time, we are warning the public of a danger concerning the behavior of Adam Longoria," said Attorney General Six. "If you see Longoria, do not approach him but call 911 or the KBI at 1-800-KSCRIME. He should be considered dangerous.
"As the investigation into the murder of Alicia Debolt continues, we continue to urge individuals with any information on this case to come forward to law enforcement," said Six. "Law enforcement continues to use all tools at their disposal to provide justice for Alicia and her friends and family."
If you have any information regarding Alicia Debolt, contact investigators at:
he's in custody for stealing the car.
reports say he was married, but he was not, he was living with woman with 2 children.
one question is why did he often hang out with teenage kids?
i think he has a record for bank robbery. info is sketchy right now. he just got out of prison in May.
edit later to add..
The Kansas charges are the latest in a long rap sheet for Longoria, who was released May 25 from prison after completing a seven-year sentence for aggravated robbery. Records in Texas show Longoria has done time there since 1991 for charges including burglary, forgery, credit card abuse, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, escape from prison and evading arrest.
GREAT BEND — Kansas Attorney General Steve Six said today that he's "confident murder charges will be filed" in the death of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt.
"We will charge somebody with murder,'' Six said shortly after Adam Longoria, a "person of interest" in Alicia's death, was charged this morning in Barton County District Court with vehicle burglary and theft.
Six did not say who those charges will be filed against but said he expected charges "in the not too distant future." He continued to refer to Longoria as a "person of interest."
Asked whether Longoria was the only focus of the investigation, Six responded that investigators "haven't closed any doors in this case" and were pursuing all leads. He said the investigation is "proceeding in an orderly fashion."
Dozens of investigators have been working on the case "with very little sleep," he said.
During this morning's court hearing, Six asked for and Judge Hannelore Kitts granted a motion to set Longoria's bail at $150,000. Kitts said the bond amount "sounds reasonable to me."
Six contended that after Longoria's house was searched as part of the homicide investigation, he fled in a stolen vehicle. It was a "desperate act" based on the homicide investigation, Six told the judge.
"I believe that the defendant is in a desperate state of mind," Six said.
Six contended that Longoria poses a flight risk and a threat to public safety.
the fucker was belligerent and staring at the family in court. they can return the stare when he's in the death chamber strapped to the gurney.
GREAT BEND — Prosecutors today charged Adam Longoria with capital murder in the death of 14-year-old Alicia DeBolt.
In a brief appearance this morning in Barton County District Court, the 36-year-old former Texas prison inmate was told that he was also being charged with criminal sodomy. The charges say the crimes took place on or about Aug. 21 or 22, after the Great Bend cheerleader left home and was reportedly seen getting into a vehicle.
After the hearing, Attorney General Steve Six said he did not anticipate charging anyone else in Alicia's death.
The capital murder charge alleges that she was killed "during the commission of, or subsequent to, the crime of criminal sodomy."
Six again declined to comment on the specific cause of death. The teen's body was found burned.
Asked why he couldn't discuss specifics of the case, Six said it will be a "heavily scrutinized" case because it involves the possibility of the death penalty.
"All the details will be set forth in open court,'' he said.
Without elaborating, Six criticized some of the things being said about the case in online comments. He called some of the comments "horrible," "judgmental" and "off-base."
Alicia was last seen leaving her home late the night of Aug. 21, supposedly to attend a party. There had been initial reports that she left with a 19-year-old man. A few days later, an employee found her burned body at an asphalt plant several miles west of Great Bend where Longoria had worked.
When Judge Hannelore Kitts asked Longoria whether he understood the charges, he first nodded. Prompted by his attorney, Jeff Wicks, Longoria then said, "Yeah."
At times, he squinted. Before being led off by deputies, he stared at the ceiling and puffed out his clean-shaven cheeks.
Longoria is being represented by attorneys with the Kansas Death Penalty Defense Unit.
His bond was set at $1.5 million. Six said the bond was "entirely appropriate" to ensure public safety and Longoria's appearance in court.
