The following is from the NPR website. So . . do you think the execs at NPR are correct, PC or just “wet-my-pants” pussies afraid of extremist retaliation?

NPR Ends Williams' Contract After Muslim Remarks
by David Folkenflik

October 21, 2010
NPR News has terminated the contract of longtime news analyst Juan Williams after remarks he made on the Fox News Channel about Muslims.
Williams appeared Monday on The O'Reilly Factor, and host Bill O'Reilly asked him to comment on the idea that the U.S. is facing a dilemma with Muslims.
O'Reilly has been looking for support for his own remarks on a recent episode of ABC's The View in which he directly blamed Muslims for the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Co-hosts Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg walked off the set in the middle of his appearance.
Williams responded: "Look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country. But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."
Williams also warned O'Reilly against blaming all Muslims for "extremists," saying Christians shouldn't be blamed for Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh.
But strong criticism followed Williams' comments.
Late Wednesday night, NPR issued a statement praising Williams as a valuable contributor but saying it had given him notice that it is severing his contract. "His remarks on The O'Reilly Factor this past Monday were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR," the statement read.
Williams' presence on the largely conservative and often contentious prime-time talk shows of Fox News has long been a sore point with NPR News executives.
His status was earlier shifted from staff correspondent to analyst after he took clear-cut positions about public policy on television and in newspaper opinion pieces.
Reached late Wednesday night, Williams said he wasn't ready to comment and was conferring with his wife about the episode.

All this PC bullshit is a fact of life now, it's not going away. If you are in a public position (and sometimes not) the word police are watching you & you will be caught, there's too much technology available that records words & deeds and there are those who are watching & waiting for you to slip up.

I should have added that I don't agree with any of that. I think there's too much PC., I know how to act & I don't need someone insisting that it be their way or the highway and to question and/or state that my opinions are inapporopriate. I'm entitled to them, right or wrong as they may be.

While I understand NPR's position (kinda), I feel like this guy's right to free speech has somehow been trampled. He didn't say it on NPR and he went on to make that comment about not blaming a group for the action of extremists. I think NPR overreacted.

Besides, the guy isn't saying anything that isn't felt by a lot of Americans. You can know, logically, that not all Muslims are terrorists but they dress funny. Makes me uncomfortable on planes too.

NPR has never had a problem before with any of their "journalists" or contributors bashing Christians or espousing leftist-socialist ideas. The man stated his opinion fuck people get over it! I don't want to live in a country where I can be fired for speaking my mind. Juan Williams is a huge threat to the US, LMAO!!! No one is crying out to fire Keith Olberman or that jackass Bill Maher for saying ridiculous stuff and NPR fires Williams for stating his opinion that he is scared when he climbs on an airline and there are people wearing "Muslim Garb"! Guess what people, blue-haired old ladies aren't hijacking planes and blowing them up or flying them into buildings. 18-25 year old Muslim men with beards and wearing eastern garb have been hijacking planes since the 70's, they have blown them up, they have flown them into buildings, they have killed passengers, they have held passengers hostage. If I get on a fucking plane and I see Achnad Abdul Dumbfuck , Mustapha Marin and Muhammad Achnad Al-Tikriti Hussein sitting next to me or up the aisle, I am gonna be wary of his ass. I ain't worried about Ida Mae from Kansas on her way to visit her granddaughter in North Carolina. Fuck this PC bullshit! If you look like a terrorist, talk like a terrorist and dress like a terrorist. treat that fucker like a terrorist!

The only problem I see with your opinion is that our elected officials can call you a terroist because of it. I mean hell what is the definition of terrorist?

all it takes in this country to be defined as a terrorist is that someone else is afraid of you based on your political views, religious beliefs, or your spoken opinion that stands in opposition to the status quo.

Umm. You cut grass. I'm sure they don't care what the yard men discuss as long as you trim along the driveway.

Dude worked for NPR. You have to watch your butt if you work for NPR. While I don't like the idea of it, anybody who pays you can choose to no longer pay you if you break their rules (written or implied). Employers have rights and freedoms, too.

Maybe so, but thousands of people travel to and from this country everyday from all over the world and none of them want to be the unlucky bastard that ends up with a couple of decked out muslims on their flight.

The difference between the media machine and reality could be judged in miles. They are two seperate entities, and you would be correct saying that 40% of the machine prints the truth. I have seen stories plastered in the paper that have no truth in them whatsoever and sensationalism takes the place of journalism. Give the people what they want and they will believe it's true. The internet is rampant with it. Opinion and reality become one. This is why when you see an idiot from the papers you must run them over twice because they will get up and follow you..............wait, thats a zombie..........well, its the same thing kinda. Never believe everything ya read and hear from that machine.

I can tell you don't think too hard about things before you believe them.

I find it sad that we have a country full of people who hate entire groups of other people. This exact reasoning, by a group of Muslim extremists, is leveled against Americans. You think like a terrorist. This is hate speech.

Fuck you Crackbutt, having an opinion is NOT hate speech. How the fuck did you get so fucking PC? People need to be able to say what they think without getting labled. I get nervous around anyone that can conceal a gun in their clothing. Thats why a nudist camp is sometimes the most peaceful place on earth. Fuck whatever cockamainy religion or group of assholes they belong to.

Are you serious? You just said 1.) It isn't hate speech and is perfectly fine to group people together because of a common belief and then you say in the next sentence 2.) People should be able to have any belief without being grouped together or labled. What you really mean is: 1.) You should be able to judge everybody that isn't just like you, and 2.) Only you should be able to designate the groups. If you are included in the group then it is bullshit.

Very nice. The world according to Maggot.
