I just love vintage or antique postcards, especially if there are notes written on them. I'm gonna see if that website has any.

I love depression glass, but have never collected it and don't know much about it. I've never seen the amethyst! And some of it isn't a plain color..it has this frost to it. I've only seen the red, green and amber.
I do collect the old "Jewel Tea" stuff and have tons of it. It reminds me of my grandmother and she left me her one piece. The pattern is "Autumn Leaf" and back 'in the day' a man used to go around selling tea and gave the pieces away when you bought so much tea,

Old postcards? Depression glass? Tell me more. I have a bunch of old Valentine cards from the 1920's many from Disney but it looks like those are 40ish. The glass is an entirely different world though, so many variations, but they can be picked up fairly cheap now. I like to use the cards and sometimes mail them out. The old glass is useless unless they are used either to diffuse the light on a windowsill or as a sugar bowl or dairy container. I say ....use that stuff and do not be afraid to send those old postcards to a good friend or old family member. They suck just sitting in a draw and gathering dust. And if you died tommorow it would be a waste.

The black amethyst glass looks black unless you look at it through a bright light. I have several sets of glasses I keep in my china cabinet. I find joy in just looking at them or handling them and enjoying their craftsmanship. I would shit if one broke and I didn't have a complete set. Plus, who knows what they used to make that glass back in the day. They might be lethal. I don't want mercury or another heavy metal to slowly leach into my system and end up pissing in my pants before I'm 50. That would suck.
I have a set like these: and a few other sets (some are black ruby glass). I use the wine glasses rarely if I have some really good wine. I'm pretty mellow and free with most of my belongings, but a few things I don't let people mess with. I want to keep them nice and sometimes other people don't have respect for other people's belongings. I would hate to have to fuck someone up because they got drunk and broke a glass. I'm not violent, but I think I wouldn't like them after that as much.

I cringe when someone turns a small child loose in my house, not that I don't like kids and understand their curiosity, but they always seem to head for the most fragile things. Those are gorgeous btw. I'm sure there must be something lethal in that glass because lots of things back then were dangerous. At least the food was safe though. It's funny the things I love don't appeal to anyone but me, but that's okay.

Most people aren't an open book online, MM. It invites creepers. Most Mockers aren't creepers, just smartasses, but we aren't the only ones who read here.
You would fit in better out West. There are lots of crystal/healing/radical awakening-type people out there. I know many of my peers have already been through that stage. I have a Rider Waite deck in a drawer somewhere. We just grew out of it.

I know Cracker, and I'm not really that much of an open book. I used to be though, and it almost got me killed, so I know the ropes. Thank you for the reminder though.
Plus, being southern and all..I have GUNS. I live on 2 levels and upstairs has a Colt King Cobra 357 mag. with a 6 inch barrel and pachmayr (sp) grips and a Charter Arms snub nose 38 special for upstairs (a cop friend recommended the CA because at that time it was what they carried in an ankle holster). And I've taken so many shootin' lessons that I've lost count. Yeehah? You're right about out west. Sedona is supposedly the new age meca, but I read an article saying that Asheville is slowly taking that title away from them.

you're going to laugh at me, but i am a practical sort. i bought some LLBean excellent warm lined shirts for my sons, boots, deerskin gloves, warm wool beanie hats and ...hahaha...these flashlights.
you cannot beat maglights, i have a huge black police-issue one in my car, it's not just emergency light, it's a damn weapon! i noticed my sons needed flashlights, and they aren't cheap! i just wrapped them up. they will be stunned and amazed and flabbergasted at the pretty colors! and they're going to think they're which cracks me the fuck up.

I bought myself one gift, a vintage turquoise and coral silver ring to match the one I wear all the time. It made me happy. One of my spawn will get me perfume and another will get me a pine scented candle (LOVES THOSE). Not sure what else I'll get because I told everyone I DON'T EFFEN WANT ANYTHING! I have a house full of shit I am getting rid of this year. Why don't people listen? WHY? I'd rather someone detail my car or play mexican dice/Yahtzee and drink wine with me or send me a picture. Those things are precious to me. |
