does your state recognize MLK Day? i know it's a Federal holiday. how about schools, etc. where you live? some places the kids are going to school to make up for snow days. is it a big deal where you are?
i was a very idealistic kid back then, i liked his Dream speech at the Washington Monument.
This MLK country. I live smack in the middle of the Civil Rights Corridor. You can tell because you can't go to the damn mall without taking your life into your own hands.

I've told my parents & my man that if I die before them I want a closed casket regardless if it just looks like I'm sleeping. It horrifies me to think that people would be looking at me laid out. Ugh.

[/b]I am with you there, Duchess. When my mom dies, we had a closed casket at her request, and that was easy. With my dad, it was open and much harder for me to deal with. Of course, I have told my husband I am all for cremation.
i think when someone of the stature/notoriety/fame of MLK dies, especially suddenly, they almost have to have an open casket so there won't be the usual conspiracy theories out there about 'he isn't really dead'. like Elvis.
