That's how I look at my kitchen. It's a work of art, to be admired only, I don't want to have to actually use it.

I throw stuff away when no one is home and they usually don't notice it missing. If they do miss it then tough shit because I'm the only one willing to clean up around here.

I built a room where I keep all my "stuff" in, I lock it before I go to work and nobody touches my stuff. Sometimes I get out all my stuff and look at it. I sit in a chair and pick through it and catalog it and put it in plastic packages and put it away in my stuff shelf. It is a room about 20 ft X 15 ft. and I have room to stuff more stuff in there. Every once in a while I look at my stuff for hours wondering how the hell I ever kept my sanity before I had all this stuff. Cracker would love to run her fingers through my stuff, but I will not let her. She is the Anti-stuff devil and will destroy everyones stuff if she spreads her evil wings and gets her meat hooks on anyones stuff. Get a water spray bottle and protect your stuff from the Anti-stuff queen.

I read a science fiction story from the '60's about a future world where everyone literally has more stuff than anyone could want. Rich people were ble to afford the taxes to have their ownership waived so they could live simpler lives but the poorest people had to live in huge houses and be burdened with tons of stuff.
The hero of the story was very very poor and came up with the idea of putting some of those new clothes on his team of robots and having them march up and down the staircases to wear out both the clothes and the robots. Soon he had invnted numerous ways to destroy all the stuff and became very wealthy so he could live in a little house.
Henry David Thoreau once said that all men push all their belongings around in a wheelbarrow and it was incumbant on each of us to keep the load as light as possible.

My favorite (okay, only) Thoreau quote: "the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation".

I tossed or donated a ton of "stuff". It was great. I'm gradually going through the downstairs and garage now. I think by the time I'm done I will have gotten rid of about 1⁄3 to 1⁄2 of our stuff. I do feel lighter.
I even question the wisdom of keeping large amounts of sentimental stuff. My parents kept scrupulous photo albums. After my dad died, my mom mentioned that she'd like my sister and I to go through them and keep the pictures we want and toss the rest. We haven't done it yet. Out of the 1000's of pictures they have, I might want 10 (if that). I already have most of the special ones. It's sad to toss them but that's probably what's going to happen.
Save the pictures for your kids. In the years to come they will be invaluable. I never ever throw out pictures. Unless it's a bad one of me. LOL No really. You can't replace them and while they might not be special to you now, they might be to your family or your children or grandchildren. I threw out every single thing from my wedding when I got divorced except the photos. I kept those for the boys. They could probably care less but I couldn't bring myself to throw them away.

I subscribe to the garbage bag way of decluttering. I take a few and go into the boys rooms when they are not home and go to town. Thing 1 is just a slob and never throws anything away. Thing 2 is also a slob but he keeps things. When I can't take it anymore I go in and clean it up because their vision of a clean room and my vision are not the same.
