Johnny S. Clarke & Lisa Straub- young Ohio couple murdered
(04-17-2012, 01:43 AM)d505 Wrote: So the reason I say I believe they were killed over uppers is because more money is involved in uppers and people on uppers are crazy. I am sure Cameo sold weed, coke, crack or whatever he got his hands on where he could get high for free or make some money... but I doubt their motives that January night were over weed.

I do believe that Johnny was a drug dealer and I am sure Lisa sold drugs to to make some extra cash...I don't think they were dealers that made thousands of dollars a month, but I am sure they made something.

Both johnny and lisa's family say they don't know cameo or sam. Straub's house was targeted it wasn't random. If they didn't know each other ...cameo and sam probably got a tip that johnny was a drug dealer and was an easy target...

Great Post! good information! you may be right! Cameo is mixed up with a lot of nasty people I'm sure more than Kush is involved.

Lets pretend the Straub's did have a safe with a lot of cash, and the suspects did get away with a lot of cash. Would the police make this public information? Don't they often withhold stuff like this because it may hinder the investigation?

of course the authorities are under no obligation to tell the public anything related to their investigation.
yes, evidence is frequently withheld from the public for various reasons.
some things only the perpetrators would know may need to be kept confidential, for example.

However, I grew up in a bedroom community of Boston with houses much bigger than Lisa's and you'd be surprised a lot of those parents did smoke pot and some did grow a couple of plants for personal use.

I think the suspects chose Lisa and Johnny as a target probably because of the alleged safe and because Johnny was a dealer and they assumed they would get cash and drugs. As Lisa's uncle stated that the suspects didn't touch the flat screen, laptop etc this is because they were looking for something bigger. I am sure flat screen tvs don't make much of a profit on the street. they were looking for cash and what does make money on the street drugs.

For all we know the suspects could have gotten away with a lot of cash and a lot of drugs. The police do not share everything with the public.

If I was Mrs. Straub, I would be terrified/shocked that my daughter was dead, and I would not want the media announcing to the public that we kept a lot of cash in the house and we have a safe.

Again... I know the Straub's and I know their house. I've seen every inch of it except for the two daughter's closets. There is/was NO SAFE or large amount of cash.

Mustang, just wanted to say it's always good to hear from someone close to Lisa's family.

Do you have an opinion on what may have happened that night?

This ring that's been mentioned - was it stolen from Straub's house or from Lisa?

The fact that aaron griffin is testifying makes me curious. I wonder if he has known what happened that night all along of if he just heard something in jail? I guess i would assume that if he knew something prior to going to jail he would have used whatever info possible to get him outta doing time. Hmm... just some random thoughts... anybody know yet if these trials will be televised?! I want to watch!

NightOwl, I really don't have an opinion on what happened that night. I'm anxious to hear at trial what the investigation determined happened. Like everyone else, I believe the non-existent safe was a driving factor in the crime, but it wasn't just a burglary. The cruelty of the murders and the other factors indicate that it was personal. Whoever did this, or had it done, wanted cash (and lots of it) from Johnny.

I'm also as bothered as everyone else by Maytee's bizarre behavior, beginning on the night of the murders. I can't help but think that her actions and rantings are so over-the-top because, if not in some way responsible for what happened, she at least feels responsible. In my gut I believe she has good reason to feel that way and hope those details come to light. If for no other reason, just to get her to shut the fuck up.

In the meantime, we all continue to grieve for Lisa and pray for Jeff and Mary Beth as they face the difficulty of the trials and the gruesome details, crime scene photos, etc. that they will have to endure. A while back Jeff told me how awful he feels for Johnny's father having found the bodies and having to live with that memory. From that perspective, while it certainly won't be easy, Johnny's parents already know what to expect at trial, but for the Straub's it may be much more difficult to have to see these images for the first time. Knowing them as I do, I know they will remain strong and dignified in public, but the pain they will quietly endure is impossible for me to fathom.

He may not know anything. AP is being called as a witness for the defendant, Cameo Pettaway.
In fact, all 3 are witnesses for the defense. Could just be to introduce reasonable doubt.

From Court Dockets re Cameo Pettaway. I noticed this request for more funds the other day and thought good grief how greedy can we get! Thank goodness Judge Bates has some common sense.

4/18/2012 1 Title : ORD:MOTION DENIED
500-000007130 issued by 226 ()
This matter came on to be heard upon the Motion for
"Interim Fee Payment" filed by the defendant April 12,
2012. The Court on December 29, 2011 granted an initial
sum for this expert not to exceed $7,000.00. On February
13, 2012, the Court granted an additional sum of
$7,000.00. The motion requests the sum of $14,852.05
which goes beyond the appropriated amounts.
Counsel for the defendant requested an additional
$7,000.00 on April 11, 2012 which was approved by the
Court on April 12, 2012. The Court indicated that this
would be the final approval of funds for this mitigation
investigator.
It appears that the investigator is not paying attention
to the amounts appropriated by the Court. The bills and
time expended are outrageous. An investigator is to
assist counsel. We are paying this investigator $125.00
per hour which is significantly more than we pay counsel.
We also pay her $227.50 each time she comes from Illinois.
Because this is a death penalty case, it appears that the
investigator considers that there is no limitation of
funds. This is a form of extortion upon the Court. I
would again caution counsel to monitor the use of this
witness. The failure to do so within the present
appropriated funds will result in the inability to call
this witness if and when a mitigation hearing may be
conducted. The Court has admonished counsel not to seek
addition funds for this expert.
It is therefore ORDERED, ADJUDGED and DECREED that the
Motion for the Interim Payment for Mitigation service is
DENIED. The Court will rule upon the witnesses fee
request at the conclusion of the trial.

I have no idea, and if LC knows she is Smiley_emoticons_stumm I always keep in mind that the discovery may include leads that were dead ends. But that cigarette butt is looking like the real thing. Seems Sammy Sosa took a smoke break.
