i really get tired of this. burglars, thieves, whatever, always wanting to be paid when there has been criminal behavior that leads to whatever injury happened. hey! if she wasn't stealing she wouldn't have been in the back seat of a cruiser! and i have seen them thousands of times do shit in the back seat that could cause their own injuries.
here's an example: video report here with family: http://www.wsoctv.com/news/30100217/detail.html WSOCTV CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- CMPD announced Thursday it has video evidence showing how a teenage shoplifting suspect nearly killed herself in the back seat of a police cruiser. On Dec. 5, police said 18-year-old Tanisha Williams choked herself with a seat belt in the back of a police car after being arrested at the CitiTrends store on Freedom Drive. She was in police custody and was wearing handcuffs. During a news conference Thursday night, Tanisha Williams' family said she was brain dead. "I can't even ask her, 'Sis, what was going on? What happened to you?' Ain't nobody can answer my questions. Nobody but God," said Tanisha Williams older sister, Porsha Williams. The family held the news conference with their attorney because, they said, CMPD hasn't answered their questions for the last three weeks. "I'm hurting by what happened to her, and it wasn't handled right from the beginning," said Tanisha Williams' grandmother, Darlene Talley. Police told Eyewitness News the internal investigation is "nearly complete." Both officers involved in the arrest are on full, active duty. Police confirmed they have video showing what happened. Tanisha Williams' family said they didn't learn that until shortly before the news conference. "When this first happened, why didn't they tell me they had a film? Why didn't they tell me then?" asked Talley. Porsha Williams said she needs to see the tape to "No matter how nasty, how brutal this tape is, by me being her sister, I want to see it," Porsha Williams said. Porsha Williams said she believes her sister fought with the officers and was injured before getting into the car. Police said that's not true, and that the officers tried to revive her with an oxygen mask before paramedics arrived. The attorney representing Tanisha Williams' family hasn't seen the video yet. Eyewitness News has filed a Freedom of Information Act request with the department to get the video.

Stupid Negros, there is a reason they are 18% of the general population and 80% of the prison population

With thousands of shoppers to keep an eye on, not even the most vigilant of loss prevention people/deputies can't be expected to spot every die-hard thief. i think i would have noticed this guy. But when the item being stolen from under your nose is a large, flat-screen television, you might expect store staff to react. Yesterday, police officers revealed that a man who calmly strolled into a Walmart store had done just that - successfully making off with a $500 set. The brazen suspect simply walked into the store, picked out his model of choice, and strolled out the front door without paying. The incident happened at Cherryville, North Carolina, last Tuesday evening, according to police.

Tiffany Foster (source: Louisville Metro Department of Corrections) LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville mother is facing charges after police say she and another woman involved her 10-year-old daughter in shoplifting. According to the arrest report, officers were called to the Target at 4640 Taylorsville Road around 4 p.m. Saturday. That's where officers learned that store security guards had observed two women, along with a 10-year-old girl, concealing over $600 worth of merchandise under some jackets in a cart. Police and store security say the two women had the 10-year-old push the cart out of the store. Although security guards were able to stop the child, the two women ran away. Investigators tracked the child's mother, 29-year-old, Tiffany K. Foster, to her home in the 2400 block of Arbor Pointe Drive and ordered her back to the store. That's where Foster told officers that she didn't know about the merchandise hidden in the cart, but the child had already told police that they had planned to shoplift before entering the store. The child also told police that her mother and her mother's friend had involved her in stealing merchandise in the past. Foster was arrested and charged with theft by unlawful taking and abandonment of a minor.

well this is weird. so many items are more $$$ and more easily concealed and portable.
thedaily Law enforcement officials across the country are puzzled over a crime wave targeting an unlikely item: Tide laundry detergent. Theft of Tide detergent has become so rampant that authorities from New York to Oregon are keeping tabs on the soap spree, and some cities are setting up special task forces to stop it. And retailers like CVS are taking special security precautions to lock down the liquid. One Tide taker in West St. Paul, Minn., made off with $25,000 in the product over 15 months before he was busted last year. “That was unique that he stole so much soap,” said West St. Paul Police Chief Bud Shaver. “The name brand is [all] Tide. Amazing, huh?” Tide has become a form of currency on the streets. The retail price is steadily high — roughly $10 to $20 a bottle — and it’s a staple in households across socioeconomic classes. Tide can go for $5 to $10 a bottle on the black market, authorities say. Enterprising laundry soap peddlers even resell bottles to stores. “There’s no serial numbers and it’s impossible to track,” said Detective Larry Patterson of the Somerset, Ky., Police Department, where authorities have seen a huge spike in Tide theft. “It’s the item to steal.” Why Tide and not, say, Wisk or All? Police say it’s simply because the Procter & Gamble detergent is the most popular and, with its Day-Glo orange logo, most recognizable of brands. George Cohen, spokesman for Philadelphia-based Checkpoint Systems, which produces alarms being tested on Tide in CVS stores, said: “Name brands are easier to resell. “In organized retail crimes they would love to steal the iPad. It’s very easy to sell. Harder to sell the unknown Korean brand." Most thieves load carts with dozens of bottles, then dash out the door. Many have getaway cars waiting outside. “These are criminals coming into the store to steal thousands of dollars of merchandise,” said Detective Harrison Sprague of the Prince George’s County, Md., Police Department, where Tide is known as “liquid gold” among officers. He and other law enforcement officials across the country say Tide theft is connected to the drug trade. In fact, a recent drug sting turned up more Tide that cocaine. “We sent in an informant to buy drugs. The dealer said, ‘I don’t have drugs, but I could sell you 15 bottles of Tide,’ ” Sprague told The Daily. “Upstairs in the drug dealer’s bedroom was about 14 bottles of Tide laundry soap. We think [users] are trading it for drugs.” Police in Gresham, Ore., said most Tide theft is perpetrated by “users feeding their habit.” “They’ll do it right in front of a cop car — buying heroin or methamphetamine with Tide,” said Detective Rick Blake of the Gresham Police Department. “We would see people walking down the road with six, seven bottles of Tide. They were so blatant about it.” Robyn Cafasso, chief deputy district attorney in Colorado Springs, Colo., said the problem is nothing more than “organized shoplifting” and can be stopped. One method is to toughen punishments for recidivists. “There’s this old-school thought that this is a shoplift, so it goes into the municipal system,” Cafasso said. “We’re starting to actually get more habitual offenders out of the municipal system and refile charges to make it a more serious offense.” Cafasso agreed that there’s been a major upswing in Tide theft. “Everybody knows that liquid detergent Tide is an expensive item,” she said. The pharmacy chain CVS is locking down Tide and other laundry detergents in certain parts of the country alongside flu medication and other commonly stolen items. Joe LaRocca, of the National Retail Federation, said: “It’s a game of cat and mouse. There’s a real balance that takes place between customer service — the product available on the shelf — and securing the merchandise.”

A 340-pound Georgia woman 'punched, spat at and pepper-sprayed' Piggly Wiggly staff as she attempted to make off with stolen beer, bacon, cheese and chicken wings. Lonneshia Shafaye Appling, 26, shoved nearly $90 worth of fat-laden food and drink in a canvas bag at the grocery store in Athens on Wednesday afternoon before she 'attempted to check out, only putting one item on the counter,' according to police. But a Piggly Wiggly staff member who had been informed of the theft by a customer quizzed her about the goods she was hiding, prompting her to make a run for the exit When another worker, Jonathan Orr, tried to stop her, she 'pulled out some pepper spray and sprayed him in the face' then punched and spat at a fellow staff member, Nick Wolfe. Finally managing to exit the store, the sweathog was seen 'dropping beer cans out of her purse'. Responding to a 911 call, police reported spotting a 'very large black female in a purple dress standing there screaming at two store employees'. The woman ignored several commands by officers to place her hands behind her back so they could handcuff her. (you need 3 sets of cuffs on this one.) A back up officer was finally required to help place the fat slob into custody. The prolific shoplifter, with outstanding warrants in three Georgia counties, was arrested and taken to the local police station. There, officers counted five packets of cheese, eight cans of Coors Light, two packets of chicken wings, five packages of bacon and vegetable oil among her stash. Lonneshia Shafaye Appling daily mail
