Most here know I make my career working with people with disabilities. Have been in this field for over 25 years. There is a new "movement" out there to stop the use of "The R -Word" (retard) in a derogatory manner. You know...calling someone a retard to be me4an and all. Folks with disabilities are trying to make the change.
OK, fine. But the word, and the use thereof will go away about as well as the use of the N word has gone away.
A co-worker here is getting into a flame war with someone on Facebook who genuinly questioned why there was a problem, as "retarded" is defined as "slow" etc. So the explaiation is THAT is not the issue, it is when it is used in a negative way.
So the coworker is calling the people who are questioning, or disagreeing with being PC, Idiots, jerks, etc.
She just got mad at me because I questioned how calling someone an Idiot in this argument is OK..but not retard.
Our purpose is to educate about acceptance.
To me, words is words...they can hurt only if you let them. Now I am not going out and calling my Black friends " N*****S" or disabled friends Retards...but still.
I have had strangers come up to me and call me "fat"...and I simply say "Yes I am" and move on. They have no where to go if they have not hurt me with the word, when they are just stating a fact.
I will pretty much remind folks, that while I am fat, I can lose weight, and change that reality about myself. BUT...you just can't fix stupid.

That's retarded.  It's not sometimes for me--I hate the whole p.c. movement in general.
When my son was in 4 th grade, a friend of his said "that's so gay" to another boy and they fucking suspended him (the kid had never been in any trouble before). Really? You have kids that never turn in their homework, they're disruptive little brats and yet you suspend a good kid for a word. If he'd said "stupid", it would have been a non-issue. It was fucking ridiculous.

The post office is supposed to be going bankrupt by October of this year. That's a little fucked up. Good thing we aren't in a depression or anything.
They just expelled 3 kids in Georgia for saying their teacher is a pedo on FaceBook. The parents are raising hell. Where were they when the kids posted bad things online? Colleges, employers, banks look at FaceBook pages. It's a bad idea to post your personal business because it is then considered "published" and people can use it how they wish.

Email or snail mail, what's your pick?
I rarely have need for the post office, I use email & fax. When I purchase gifts for others I send them directly from the store I purchased them from. I buy stamps online when I need them & sling my mail into the big blue box as I drive by. *shrugs* I don't care if I have a post office...or not.

I am almost exclusively email. I think I have one or two utility bills I pay by snail mail, but most other bill paying and correspondence is by e mail, fax of phone.
