Venison is any game animal. Deer, Turkey, Grouse, pheasant.....anything. I did just finish off my last years dearmeat at a buddies 50^th birthday party Saturday night, it came out great on his weird screwdriver driven grill. Savages ate a quart of pickles in 15 min also............ But I hear ya, being alone in the woods is good for the soul.

CONCORD, N.H. -- Seventy-one percent of permitted moose hunters killed a moose this season, which is slightly down from 76 percent last year, but up from 2008 and 2009.

Officials said the weather conditions weren’t nearly as good as last year.

Warmer temperatures and rain keep moose bedded down, making them harder to find, according to Fish and Game officials. GOOD! HIDE MOOSIES!

The most successful hunting region was the Connecticut Lakes Region, where 79 percent of hunters got a moose.

Hi maggot, long time no talk. I agree with the good year part of your post. Its a great year for deer hunting over here as well. I have ben out 5 times this year and seen 75 deer. The best being a 12 point with a double split brow tine. I've only tagged 1 doe so far, but she was a nice one, almost 200 pounds standing weight.

Last shotgun season I also dropped a nice buck. 20 ¹⁄₂ inch inside spread on that big boy.

A hunter was found dead Thursday after he fell out of his tree stand in a wooded area by U.S. Highway 301 and Interstate 10, according to Jacksonville police.

Police said the man, whose identity was not immediately released, fell from the stand that was about 40 feet up and broke his neck.

It's unclear how long he had been there.

Police said the man's body was found by friends who went looking for him after they hadn't heard from him in a couple of days.

Hunting from a tree stand without using a safety belt, this fool deserved to fall. Never ever climb a tree without a safety harness in use. That's rule # 1 in my book. The only one I feel sorry for is his family. While hunting IS dangerous, its risks can be minimized.

40 feet up in a tree is crazy! A person is out of the line of sight of a deer at just 12 feet. I usually hang my stands anywhere from 16 - 22 feet up [most climbing sticks are 16 - 20 feet tall] and that is plenty high enough. Saying he was 40 feet up makes it sound like he was one of those hunters that bragged the he hung his stand the highest, had the best equipment, was the best shot, had the fastest bow, bought the newest gimmick on the market etc.

Seriously! We had steps down into the family room and then there it was. Right there above the fireplace. So it's the first thing that caught your eye as you came down the steps. I wanted to take that thing out in the yard and beat the shit out of it with a shovel.

ok this guy didn't simply fall out of the tree stand. he set himself on fire THEN fell out of the tree stand.

A hunter from Maple Grove, Minn., died Saturday morning in rural St. Louis County when his clothing caught on fire while he was trying to light a propane heater in his deer stand.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said Arthur Joseph Knafla, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 9:45 a.m. in Lavell Township, southeast of Hibbing.

Saturday was the opening day of Minnesota’s firearms deer season.

A news release said Knafla was attempting to light the heater in his partially enclosed deer stand. He fell from the stand when his clothing began burning.

Meadowlands Ambulance assisted sheriff’s deputies at the scene.

I can understand the hatred of deer heads on family room walls. That is why I hang mine on the walls in my man cave/gun room. The only people that ever have to see the mounts are hunters or gun enthusiasts. While I do enjoy a good mount[hehehe] I would never display my trophies where the rest of the family or guests was forced to view them. If someone asks to see them I can take them up to my man cave and show them off and tell the tale of that particular hunt.
