Cruise ship sinks in Russia with 182 aboard
Moscow (CNN) -- A cruise ship carrying 182 people sank in Russia's Volga River on Sunday, leaving at least one person dead and large numbers missing, emergency officials said.
The ship, the Bulgaria, sank with about 2 p.m. (6 a.m. ET) with 125 passengers and a crew of 57 aboard, Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry reported. A total of 84 people had been rescued Sunday evening, the ministry said.
The state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported that police have opened a criminal investigation into allegations of safety violations aboard the vessel. One woman was confirmed dead and 88 remained missing, RIA Novosti said.
The agency said double-deck cruise ship went down near the village of Syukeyevo, in the Russian republic of Tatarstan. Russian officials said two ships and two helicopters responded to the incident, about 50 miles south of the city of Kazan -- about 450 miles east of Moscow.
In all, 22 rescue units including 80 people were involved in the operation, RIA Novosti reported.
Was your answer 182?

I got 172. 173 if you count the confirmed dead woman but she may have been accidently confused with those who were rescued.

i've been despairing and disgusted with so-called journalism for a long time. mainly because of terrible childish spelling and even complete disregard for actual facts. the Fourth Estate is shamefully lacking in pride or accuracy.
there are still a few news outlets that monitor their sadly uneducated reporters. but not many. in pursuit of updates to stories i want to cover, i have been appalled and often written letters to editors. i don't bother anymore, it's akin to shoveling shit against the tide.
why confuse them with actual facts of a case or with correct spelling? or it seems, simple math.

I think in another life I would have made a good proof reader. I notice every damn typo in the newspaper and more in books. I tend to read book series and I often notice that the author will "forget" something that happened in a previous book and brush by it without any explanation. It's annoying.

Ya know whats annoying? When someone does not want to make a decision and when you finally do something they pick apart your decision. Ya wanna smack-em upside the head and say "Ring the fucking bells Mary!"

How do you make any money when you have a crew of 57 and only 125 guests? This story doesn't even make good economic sense.

The math is simple...however I bet all of us have hit a key on the keyboard next to the one we meant to hit (in this case, an 8 instead of a 7), havent we?

Sure, we've all made typos but as far as I know none of us works for a professional news organization that is viewed around the world. The very least they could do is have someone proofread their bullshit.

Happens all the fucking time, sweetheart. Besides, proofreaders are probably more trained to look for grammatical errors, not # typo errors.

Bunch of clowns, I have seen them get countless countries wrong in Europe over the years when you are in those shite situations when CNN international is the only available English speaking channel in the hotel.
But they are better than Fox - they are scarily ignorant.
