How will the 'nice talkers' get past newbie hell? Will you have a separate intro forum for them? How will you know they're not going to be "mean talkers" in disguise?

I don't know, I was just thinking out loud. Nice talkers would get a free pass inside, but be limited to just the nice forums/subforums, then.

I mean this honestly, since more then some others here I have seen your 24 forum from the real begining of it's growth.

I think you might have gotten a little off track with all the member owned forum stuff and trying to make it somehow different then other forums of the world. While that WAS an original and interesting idea, ultimately the explosion of blogs and just general ease that anyone could start a new forum or blog made that concept/idea very hard to keep rolling without tremendous help.

You and I have spoken about this in the past, but you never ever monitorized the site. That is totally 100% fine, but it also limited your potential income and available funds to hire people to help manage the site. At one time your 24 site was getting hundreds and hundred to thousands of posts a day. That is something that 99.999999% of the forums and sites on the internet NEVER EVER do. It just does not happen that much anywhere. With that much traffic there would have been considerable adsense income from impressions and click throughs and you could have even sold banner ads in the specific forums or site wide.

Maybe at this point it is the right way to go. If you don't care about it anymore OR IF the stress and hassle of running it is something that you do not like anymore, then try to make a little money if possible. I am not saying you need it, but why not take advantage of what you built or what was built under your watch.
The other option is to clean it up and then try to sell it on sitepoint or one of those places. I have sold multiple fully built websites in the past year and made some great real money (over $XXXX.XX).

Again this is just another option versus just shutting it down. The domain name alone has value and someone might buy the site and then put a new site there. At that point you just dont care since you have sold it. Currently 24hourforums.com has an Alexa ranking of around 400,000 and a Google PR rank of 3. Both respectable and worth keeping the site up if you plan to sell. Email me if you want some assistance/feedback on selling sites.

Me too, we have actually managed to shed some of the dead weight in the last few days, I don't know about anyone else but I now feel more comfortable there already and I want to contribute more as a result.
