A Stagg High School student was charged this morning with killing his parents in their Palos Park area home.

John Granat, 17, is to appear in bond court this morning in the Bridgeview courthouse, charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Sheriff's police said it was the young Granat who made the 911 call at 7:12 a.m. Sunday that brought police to the family home in the 12700 block of 81st Court near Palos Park.

John Granat, 44, and his wife, Maria, were found dead in their bedroom. An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office determined that John Granat suffered blunt force trauma to his head. His wife suffered the same and also was stabbed repeatedly.

Authorities did not reveal a motive for the slayings.

Neighbors said John Granat was a local contractor and their son attends Stagg High School in Palos Hills.

Linda Falkenburg and her family have lived in the house behind the Granats' for nearly 10 years and said she was stunned when she found detectives in her backyard Sunday. Falkenburg described the Granats as "the sweetest, most perfect family."

"I feel like I just lost a family member," she said. "I can't imagine why anyone would do something like this."

The Granats' home, trimmed with manicured hedges and topiary bushes, is a pastel-hued duplicate of the red brick house next door. A large pond separates the yard from their neighbor on the opposite side.

This one happened in NH a few years back. Your post reminded me of it. I tried to find some newspaper articles about it, but the only story I can find on it is from WMUR.

There is also a book out about it called "Because You Loved Me" by M.William Phelps

Daughter Sentenced To 40 Years For Mother's Death
Teen, Boyfriend Plotted To Kill Her Mother

NASHUA, N.H. -- A Nashua teenager who took part in the murder of her mother was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison.

Nicole Kasinskas, 18, plotted with her boyfriend to kill her mother, Jeanne Dominico. Kasinskas pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and agreed to testify against her boyfriend, William Sullivan.

At the sentencing hearing, Dominico's relatives spoke out about the killing.

"I went to the funeral, and I had to drive away thinking to myself that I was leaving my Jeanne behind," said Amy Beth Kasinskas, Nicole Kasinskas' sister.

Prosecutors said Nicole Kasinskas and Sullivan murdered Dominico because she refused to let the two teenagers live together. Sullivan was convicted of first-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

Christopher McGowan, Dominico's fiance, carries rosary beads made from the same roses he sent to her one day before she was murdered.

"I personally feel as though you are just as guilty as Billy and should have been sentenced to the same charges," McGowan said.

Investigators said Kasinskas and Sullivan plotted several times to kill her mother before Sullivan beat her to death in her home while Kasinskas kept a lookout from across the street.

"William Sullivan may be a psychopath, but there's one thing that's very clear to me in this case -- the murder of your mother wouldn't have happened without your complicity," Judge William Groff said.

Kasinskas said nothing during the hearing. She can have five years deducted from her sentence if she completes her education.

He calls himself Johnny Hash on his Facebook page. Not much to see, it is private but he looks like a gangsta-wannabe in his profile pic. Like a hundred other kids I know. Scary stuff.

The Stagg High School student who was ordered held without bail today in the slaying of his parents had made multiple threats to kill them, sheriff’s investigators said.

John Granat, 17, also made several inconsistent statements to investigators prior to his being charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of his father, John Granat, 44, and mother Maria, 42, they said.

Sheriff's police said it was the young Granat who made the 911 call at 7:12 a.m. Sunday that brought police to the family home in the 12700 block of 81st Court near Palos Park.

At that time, he said he awoke at 7 a.m. and found the home in a state of disarray. He said he went upstairs, found his parents dead, ran from the home and immediately called 911,

Investigators said they found no signs of forced entry to the home. They also said Granat told them he fell asleep in the basement around 12:30 a.m. and was in the home the entire night. But investigators found that Palos Heights police had stopped him for a minor traffic offense at 5:17 a.m. at 122nd Street and Harlem Avenue.

He finally told police a friend had been in need of money and, while Granat was out of the house, he gave the friend permission to enter. Granat said he fell asleep in his car and didn’t enter until 7 a.m.

Police said they interviewed several of the boy's friends and were told he had made multiple threats to kill his parents.

In court today prosecutors said the Granats were found dead in their bedroom. The walls of the room, including the ceiling were splattered with blood.

The boy's father had suffered such extensive trauma that it lacerated his kidneys. Officials did not say what the murder weapon was.

He was ordered held without bond by Judge Peter A. Felice.

Prosecutors showed Felice brutal, bloody photos of Granat’s slain parents — John Granat, 44, and Maria Granat, 42 — before bond was set. Prosecutors said the attack was so vicious there was blood splatter on the ceiling of the couple’s bedroom, where they were found.

John Granat, 17, was denied bail after prosecutors showed graphic pictures of the blood-splattered crime scene. His father, John Granat, 44, had his jaw broken, his teeth knocked out and his kidney lacerated, prosecutors said. His mother, Maria Granat, 42, had been repeatedly stabbed.

Granat, dressed in a white jumpsuit, sunk his head to his chest during the bond hearing and did not look at the dozen aunts and uncles who filled the small benches behind the defense table.

Defense attorney Rick Beuke said no one in the family was aware of any strife. He said aunts and uncles on both sides of the family showed up in court today because they believe their nephew did not kill his parents.

"The fact that they are here shows they believe he is innocent," Beuke told reporters after the hearing. I DON'T THINK SO.

Or maybe they just showed up to try and figure out what the fuck is going on? ............One of my younger cousins once chased his stepmom around with a large sword and tried to kill her. He was arrested and commited for a while, then shipped back to his mom. His mom went to her grave believing nothing was wrong with him and a few other relatives never accepted it either. Personally I think he is a nut job and I would not be overly surprised to hear that he went crazy on someone, even now as an adult. It is very hard to accept such a harsh truth about someone you love.

Authorities say the couple had discovered that John was growing marijuana at their house a few weeks earlier and had thrown it away.

Since then Granat had repeatedly told friends that he wanted to kill his parents for what they had done.Relatives were reeling from the deaths of John and Maria Granat, who were part of a large extended family of Polish immigrants. 17 aunts and uncles attended Granat's initial hearing.
John Granat, the Stagg High School senior charged with first-degree murder in the slaying of his parents in their home in unincorporated Palos Township, used a hammer to beat them, a police source said Wednesday.

The injuries suffered by Granat’s parents, John and Maria Granat, were so severe that investigators initially thought they had been shot, the source said.

Police believe Granat’s mother was sleeping when he attacked her in his parents’ bedroom late Saturday or early Sunday in the family’s home in the 12700 block of 81st Court near Palos Park.

I wonder how Cody Posey is holding up. I think he has been free for about a year now. Free of dad, stepmom, and stepsister.

And what ever happened to that 8 year-old from AZ that murdered his dad and the other man living in the home? Dad's name was Vincent Romero. I followed it all for a while...

Weeks after a suburban Chicago teen was charged in the brutal slaying of his parents, authorities announced Tuesday that they charged three of his friends in what they now say was a months-long plot to rob and kill the couple.

'They conspired over the course of months to come up with a plan to kill John Granat's parents and take their money,' Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said.

High school senior John Granat, 17, was charged with first-degree murder on September 13, two days after his parents, John Granat, 44, and Maria Granat, 42, were found dead, all but unrecognizable, in their Palos Park bedroom.

The walls, ceiling and floor were splattered with blood.

On Sunday investigators started interviewing Christopher Wyma, 17, Mohammad Salahat, 17, and Ehab Qasem, 19.

The three quickly gave detailed, videotaped confessions, Mr Dart said, and led investigators to where they had hidden a knife, baseball bats, bloody clothing and cash taken from the victims.

The three are charged with first-degree murder, the Associated Press reports.
Cook County Judge Peter Felice denied them bail during a Tuesday bond court appearance.

The teens even had a code word for their plan.

Mr Dart said: 'The code word was "concert." And the concert was on.'

Granat had a Skype computer conversation with his three friends on September 11, telling them to come over, Mr Dart added.

The three friends came over and Granat let Wyma, the son of a Palos Hills police officer, and Qasem into the house with baseball bats.

They went upstairs, one standing on each side of the parents' bed, and started hitting the couple, prosecutors said.

Wyma hit the father and Qasem hit the mother with the father waking at one point and fighting back.

Salahat stayed outside in the car, but Mr Dart said that he knew of the plot and what his friends were doing inside.

Granat also beat his parents, but at one point went downstairs to look for money, prosecutors said, before Qasem came down to tell Granat his mother was still making noise.

Granat handed Qasem a knife and told him to 'go upstairs and finish them off,' Dart said.

According to a synopsis of the slayings prepared by prosecutors, Qasem stabbed Granat's mother a few times and then gave the knife to Granat, who stabbed her more than a dozen times.

The teens then ransacked the home looking for money and got away with $35,000 cash, prosecutors said.

They drove off to divide the cash, wash the baseball bats and burn the gloves that Wyma and Qasem wore.

The son looks like a cocky little punk. I can never understand how someone could do something like this to strangers, let alone their own parents!
