I like blacksmithing, its kind of cool to take a pile of scrap and make someting usefull or beautiful with it. Working my way through a pile of corvette springs and making knives and tools with them.

My son will get skateboarding "stuff". My daughter has been bugging us for weeks for a puppy. We said no several times because we already have a dog, two guinea pigs and a fish. The other day she said "oh forget the puppy, I want a laptop with a webcam".

You can password protect some webcams. If you can't on the laptop you buy, disable it when you create her user account. If she wants to use it, create a second user account (you keep the password secret) that enables the webcam.
