walking while black - Trayvon Martin
(04-01-2013, 09:29 PM)Adub Wrote: He has to take the stand. He is claiming self-defense. How else is the jury going to hear evidence of reasonable fear?

Nope. They'll just show his injuries and the calls from the neighbors (and the testimony that Trayvon was on top in the altercation). The defense would be stupid to put him on the stand. They'll hope for reasonable doubt from the jury.

Zimmerman and O'Mara surprised everyone when George took the stand at his bond hearing, after his mom, dad and wife testified regarding his character and O'Mara attacked the investigator. Suspects almost never testify at bond hearings, much less apologize. It was a good strategy considering George was released on reasonable bond.

IDK, I wouldn't put money on it either way at this time, but tend to believe that if George were prepared to subject himself to cross-examination, he would have gone for the immunity.

If George elects not to take the stand, O'Mara can present everything that user mentioned, along with character witnesses (don't think they'll use the wife again though, since she committed perjury, and certainly not the brother). Plus, there will be the usual expert witnesses to testify with favorable interpretations regarding what the wounds, bullet trajectory, "help audio" indicate, etc.. O'Mara would essentially act as George's voice in that case, without George being subjected to cross-examination.

I really hope Zimmerman testifies.

An open letter from George's mother -

April 11 2012 will be forever remembered by the Zimmerman family as the day the justice system failed us as Americans, and as a consequence an innocent man was arrested for a crime he did not commit, solely to placate the masses. George was charged with murder. By confusing the public and manipulating perception in order to sway the “court of public opinion”, Benjamin Crump & co. finally achieved their “first base” victory.

The media, with the help of social media made it their prerogative to judge and sentence George before and after his arrest. Even members of Congress and self-proclaimed “activists” used and routinely use to this day the term “murderer” when they speak of him–in effect they are re-enforcing the only acceptable judicial outcome in their eyes. Many have seen to it that he be judged by the public, the very public they were keen on misinforming.

I'd more believe that these are MommaZ tweets, than that the letter from the desk of RZJr was written by Gladys. Funny stuff.

I hate the way the kid was shown in pictures when he was much younger and smaller. Did the parents not have any pics of him too show the media when he was older?
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

They are out there. News reports evolve. That is just the way it is. Has nothing to do with the criminal case. Trayvon was only one week past his 16th birthday. He was just a kid that, evidently, grew almost a half-a-foot between his sophmore and junior year. My son did the same thing. Truth.

I still think the older guy should have been wiser than a 16-17 yr old. They are so easy to just boss around. It should have gone differently and the old man should have known better.

Zimmerman thought that he was apprehending a criminal suspect. And Trayvon Martin had no idea that Zimmerman's imagination was fucking with him. This was all one-sided. Zimmerman fucked-up.

The media has no part in a criminal trial. Zimmerman will try to say that politics were involved. And that the State succumbed to politcal pressure. And arrested Zimmerman. Political pressure brought on by the media.

Blah, blah, blah...

The evidence says otherwise.

Technically I believe they would call it obese. If I remember right a 5 10 male should weigh somewhere aroung 165.

Obese. But, I don't think Shellie Zimmerman is that tall.

I keep wondering how much the donation money is affecting the defense strategy in terms of dragging out the case, if at all.

These are just factors and questions that make me curious about possible monetary motivations, not accusations.

- Zimmerman's legal fund had raked in over $300,000 in donations and it had all been spent on living expenses and defense by July 2012 (according to O'Mara), so new donation solicitation strategies were implemented (I have no idea how much has been raked in altogether)

-O'Mara waited til the last minute to depose Witness 8, even though he had everything necessary to do so and it's clear (to me) that she will not make a strong witness on the stand; any good attorney can likely poke holes in her testimony (regardless of how truthful it might be; more a weakness in her ability to comprehend and articulate effectively - IMO).

-Meanwhile, O'Mara motioned to delay the trial for as long as possible, until the judge said, "no more".

-Zimmerman and O'Mara decided to waive the SYG Immunity Hearing that could have avoided a trial altogether; with no criminal record for George. If they feel they have a strong case and George is confident in his story and the facts, he could have testified this month and had his name cleared, with all charges dropped. (I understand that they also wouldn't want him to testify if they didn't think he had a good chance of winning, for whatever reason, as it could hurt his self defense case,)

IDK if defense fund donations are legally required to be refunded if there is a balance in the account when immunity is granted. I do know that this trial is going to be televised and a lot of people feel strongly that George is innocent before hearing the evidence in court (same with the opposing side). Betting a lot more money will pour in for Zimmerman as the trial approaches and O'Mara goes back on Hannity and friends.

Anyway, Momma Gladys Zimmerman has more to worry about than just George.

-Back in February, the judge denied Shellie Zimmerman's request to have the perjury charges dropped. She allegedly failed to disclose nearly $100,000 in donation assets and lied about the couple's finances at his 4/20/12 bond hearing. Corey will present jailhouse recordings of her calls with George and bank statements as evidence.

-A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for April 17th (seems as though Shellie is waiving appearance again). It's a felony charge with a max of 5 years. If she doesn't plea, looks like her trial date might bump against George's.

Media, politics, race, money (on both side) ...George Zimmerman's trial is going to be a major circus. Hoping the truth of what really went down between two men in a matter of minutes on the night that Travyon Martin was killed can be pulled out from under the tent.

Did the Zimmermans use the money to become debt-free? IDK. But, Shellie Zimmerman has very little chance of beating this perjury rap. IMO.

According to the prosecution, George told his wife to pay off all of their bills and credit cards with the money, used codes during their calls in regards to monetary amounts, etc... Shellie transferred money back and forth between accounts just before and after the bond hearing. Course, George ended up back in jail when this was uncovered, along with the fact that he was hiding a second passport, and he was released later on higher bond.

None of this has anything to do with what happened between George and Travyon in February 2012, but it possibly does relate to his case. I wonder if any of it will be permitted to be used against George's credibility at trial.

I hadn't considered that it wouldn't be before now. Damn! I think it shows he is capable of lying to the police & it deserves to be heard.

It's very difficult waiting for this trial to begin.

Port Canaveral police sergeant fired

PORT CANAVERAL --
A spokesperson for the Port Canaveral Police Department says a sergeant is no longer working there.

Sgt. Ron King was terminated Friday amid allegations from witnesses that he used an image of Trayvon Martin as a target for gun practice on April 4 at the Cocoa BCC Gun Range.

In an email discussing the termination, Spokesperson Rosalind Harvey called such behavior unacceptable and said it would not be tolerated.

Trayvon Martin family attorney, Benjamin Crump, released a statement regarding the alleged incident:

"It is very hurtful to Trayvon's parents to have the image of their dead child used as target practice by the Port Canaveral Police."

Port Canaveral Interim Chief Executive Officer John Walsh said two Port Canaveral police officers and a civilian port employee confirmed the allegations, saying King brought out targets that resembled Martin and offered them to an officer for target practice.

This california girl cannot wrap her mind around this shit. And, I was raised by parents who said things like, "he's okay for a nigger", "that little nigger kid that was over at the house..." , " does that nigger live around here?". I guess it showed that they had an open mind?

I admit that I had no black kids in elementary school with me. And two decades later my kids may have had one or two (one being a kid that was in our home a lot, and two being bad news and not acceptable as far as I was concerned). Why? because I was looking past the color of their skin, and seeing the individual. This racist bigotry shit is beyond me. I have no tolerance for it at all.
