RACE FOR THE TRIPLE CROWN
#41
Horses and Royals!  LC must be smiling, today!

This year's Derby is plagued with controversy.  4 horses dead, six scratched (including the favorite) and a small field.

I remember I once placed a 20 to 1 bet on a beautiful, spirited colt.

Unfortunately, the rest of the field all crossed the finish line before 12:37.

Something is very wrong that 7 horses died leading up to this race. Two of them died in earlier races today. I sure hope this is being investigated.

The sweet little chestnut that won the Derby had only 3 starts before this race and had only won once. Love stories like this.

Are horses being vaccinated? Smiley_emoticons_skeptisch

Racehorses are required to be vaccinated in order to come onto track grounds. Rabies, encephalitis and a couple more that are escaping me right now.

Curious as to your opinion Duchess . . .

Possibly "new" Performance Enhancing Drugs?

Genetic defects due to (over) breeding?

Insurance fraud?

It could be PED's, they can't test for drugs they aren't aware of. As an aside--a shit ton come from Canada.

Horses have heart attacks and I've known of quite a few that simply drop dead. Colic can drop a horse. It's so many things it could be, but it's the number of them seemingly all at once that is highly suspicious to me. I want this investigated. Not all owners/trainers are above doing risky things with their racehorses if they think it will give them a leg up. No pun intended.

I don't know the horse who won yesterday, but I felt so proud of him nonetheless. He was an itty bitty nobody and kicked ass. I watched him pull away from the 2nd horse at the very end. All heart!

He had famous blood. Sometimes people will sneak into a barn and insert a sponge in the nose to make them lose.

I'm not saying I disagree that nefarious shit goes down, but this particular barn would have had a massive amount of security, not just anyone is getting into that area and chances are it would have been a select few per horse, for example--groom, owner, trainer, vet.
