Something for gays to be
#1
proud of.

The White House expressed disapproval Friday of photographs showing gay-rights activists, guests of President Obama, making obscene gestures at the portrait of President Reagan during a gay-pride reception at the White House last week.

“While the White House does not control the conduct of guests at receptions, we certainly expect that all attendees conduct themselves in a respectful manner,” said White House spokesman Shin Inouye. “Most all do. These individuals clearly did not. Behavior like this doesn’t belong anywhere, least of all in the White House.”

Matthew “Matty” Hart and Zoe Strauss, both from the Philadelphia area, posted photographs of themselves on Facebook giving the middle finger to Mr. Reagan’s official portrait hanging in the White House as they attended the party.

I read about this the other day & was disgusted. It's an honor to be invited to the White House and that was a despicable diss to that invitation. I'd like to see the gay community speak out about this.

That is appalling and not a good representation for the gay community.

I found the first comment after the article...interesting?

How much more disgrace do we have to endure from Obama and his administration? Obama and his criminal appointees need to be brought up on Treason charges and prosecuted. Enough of this destruction of our once proud United States of America.

After you posted that I went back to read the comments. Are they blaming Obama for the vulgar gesture those gays made or are they blaming Obama for having the audacity to invite gays into the White House?

I'm surprised no gay leaders have come forward to address it and condemn the actions of the two activists involved.

These activists betrayed their cause and their community. There's no sort of "protest" in what they did, just childish acting out.

Ronald Reagan didn't create AIDS and unless I missed something, there was no history of him being intolerant of gays. In fact, he opposed a proposition to ban gay teachers from being hired when he was governor of California back in the late '70s.

Hart's justification for acting like an asshole at the White House makes no sense; it wouldn't excuse his actions even if Reagan had been less progressive towards gay rights, imo.
