I reviewed my life and realized I need another dog. It took 8,000 posts but it was worth it. That is why we filled out an application on my end for adopting a greyhound ... you know, one of those racing ones that aren't racing, or young ones that are not going to cut itas a racer. We want a young one if possible - the youngest is like 2 years old. We didthe applicationafter research, talking to a few people, and going to one of those walk ins where you get to interact with a few rescued greyhounds.

Ant, was that a good idea? I wanted your input before we fully committed. I am aware of the good and bad points that any normal research would yield, but I greatly value any experience that is connected to real-life ownership that I can trust.

Just tell them you want a dog that was NOT trained on live game because you have kids and other dogs.

If you can bring your current dog on one of the meet and greets without the kids first - and they get along, that might help.

Unlike you, I take in any animal no matter the temperament because I work with turning that stuff into gold whereas you need to be careful because you have small children.

Make sure you get the same sex animal as your dog as well.

Another point to consider is age difference and dominance between the two. I'm having issues with that right now. My younger dog is sensing the rapid aging process going on with the older one and has been bullying him constantly, starting fights etc to gain the top spot in the pack hierarchy. We're constantly making sure they are not together now when we do things that will set her off, like start the vacuum, talk loud between each other etc. She takes it as a chance to start with him and then I'm stuck trying to break up two pit bulls.

Greyhounds will do some great damage in a fight or bite situation... they have a serrated edge on the canine teeth. Good for shredding flesh.
