I see it largely the same way as you do, Mo.
If it weren't for all of the innocent people being slaughtered, it would be a rather comical yet complicated game of political musical chairs.

I love reading about wanna-be terrorists getting snared and arrested.
^ Harlem Suarez, 23, of Key West, Florida, (right) was arrested and appeared in a Miami court on Tuesday after taking possession of an inert 'backpack bomb' from an FBI informant on Monday.
The restaurant worker allegedly told the informant that if he got a day off he could go and plant the bomb on the beach and then detonate it with a cell phone the next day when there were people around.
Suarez, who posted pro-ISIS statuses from an account named Almlak Benitez, also allegedly ordered two AK-47s off the Internet and made an ISIS recruiting video at a motel.

IS(IS) is busy advertising their latest form of torture killing.
They buried a bunch of explosives in Afghanistan, gathered some infidels and had them kneel on the ground, and then detonated the bombs and blew up their captives.
And they're still attracting recruits from around the world.
Fucked up people.

These animals will continue to flourish until someone decides to confront them, head on.
I'm not sure anyone has the stomach for it.

The US military is too weak to confront them.
Even if we had the stomach.
That's why Obama didn't go into Syria after Assad crossed "the line".

Woooo. WTF. This is the United States of America! I don't need to learn anyone's religious practices in order to be tolerant or whatever the hell it is they are trying to do.

I don't know the context of that assignment.
I think the U.S could do a much better job teaching students on the topics of world geography, cultures, religions, etc... I support efforts to broaden U.S. citizens' global understanding, especially in senior high and college.
But, teachers should not be promoting any one religion, requiring prayer in class, or anything that goes against the separation of church and state.
If that lesson is promotion (rather than factual education) of Islamic principles out of the context of a region-specific lesson or a comparative religious principles analysis, for example, I understand the mother's outrage. Within those contexts, I have no problem with the assignment.
Do you know the age/grade of the student and the class topic, Maggot? I'm just curious.

It seems more likely that it's a course on world religion and culture which includes Islamic beliefs and not the school promoting Islamic practices. I'm willing to bet the mother is just another internet attention whore.

It looks like it was a 7th grade world history textbook which also includes Christianity, not an Islamic specific textbook. I think the mother is an asshole.

Yeah....provided they study different cultures/religions equally and without bias, I see nothing wrong with it. Quoting scripture shows the mother's bias and possibly Islamaphobia.

I have Islamphobia and don't care. When I see a Habib it makes me wary. When I see a van with a bunch of guys that look like their from the middle east I watch them. When one walks into a shopping center I look to see if they have anything under that bulky clothing when its 90deg out. Oh yeah, I've got my eye on them.

Suicide Bombers and Politics in Turkey
Yesterday was a very sad one in Turkey.
An estimated 128 civilians were killed by two suicide bombers at a peace march and demonstration in Ankara. It is the largest terrorist attack (in terms of single incident fatalities) in the country's history.
Opponents of President Erdogan claim that he has blood on his hands for stirring sentiment against the The pro-Kurdish Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP), a major presence at Saturday's march and holding seats in parliament.
The Turkish government, however, reportedly suspects and is focusing on Islamic State terrorists. No group has claimed responsibility thus far.
Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, exposing a mosaic of domestic political perils, said on Saturday Islamic State, Kurdish militant factions or far-leftist radicals could all have carried out Saturday's bombing.
Some direct their suspicions at militant nationalist groupings, with or without ties to the state, who are opposed to any concession to Kurdish demands for greater minority rights.
The Haberturk newspaper said police suspected one of the bombers was the older brother of the suicide bomber in Suruc who struck prior to a Parliamentary election in June, killing 34. Some media reports said the other was a woman.
Haberturk reported police sources as saying the type of explosive and the choice of target pointed to a group within Islamic State known as the 'Adiyaman ones', referring to Adiyaman province in southeast Turkey.
The government announced that Parliamentary elections scheduled for Nov. 1st will not be postponed, despite security concerns.

Jihadi John Reportedly Killed by Drone
People around the world knew about him - and his chilling videos of the beheadings of Western hostages.
A naturalized British citizen, Mohammed Emwazi, 27, grew up in West London. He studied computer programming at the University of Westminster and went to Syria to join Islamic State militants several years ago.
His victims in Syria reportedly included Japanese citizen Haruna Yukawa and journalist Kenji Goto; US journalists James Foley and Steven Sotloff; Abdul-Rahman Kassig, who was also known as Peter, a British citizen; and British aid workers David Haines and Alan Henning.
U.S. and British intelligence have been gunning for him for a year and worked together to pinpoint and target him. Jihadi John was an IS "celebrity of sorts," Col Steve Warren, a Pentagon spokesman, told reporters. But, he explained, Emwazi "wasn't a major tactical figure."
Still Col Warren sounded pleased. "This guy was a human animal," he said, "Killing him is probably making the world a better place."
ISIS claims he's not dead, but in a hospital.

Found on a friend's page this morning:
It is difficult to practice, but I know she is right. If I hate all muslim then I am no different than those that put Japanese in camps out of fear, it is the same concept.
Found on Reddit and says what I tried and failed to do last night
"Should this attack be the result of Muslim extremists, as it looks, this is what they want to happen. They want us to hate Muslims, to fear Muslims and anyone who looks like them. They want to drive a wedge between non-Muslims and the millions and millions of peaceful Muslims who check out our groceries, make our coffee, design our computer circuits, invest in our stocks, and make bean dip for our block parties. They want to isolate them, and make them feel unwelcome and alone, make them feel attacked. They want to make them feel like the only ones they can turn to are the radicals.
Do not let them do this.
The Enlightenment poured the foundations for the Western world to embrace the principle of religious freedom, whether that god is Jehovah, Buddha, Ganesha, Satan, Allah or anyone else. We must embrace our Muslim brothers and sisters in arms, we must condemn those who would spit on them and drive them out in retaliation, we must protect the right to worship freely that they have by virtue of being a human being.
That is how we beat the terrorists. Not with bigotry and hatred, but by saying "those evil extremists are not you, and I will refuse to treat you like they want me to.""
To be a feminist is simply to believe that everybody should be treated equally, regardless of sex. It means you think that there should be equality of the sexes economically, socially, politically and personally. When you put it like that, it’s surely difficult for anybody to deny being a feminist. But for such a simple concept, it is often dramatically misunderstood.

MS will never agree to that.
I wouldn't blame them all for the acts of a few. I don't look at people that way. I look at the individual.
